Spring is Finally Here!
May/June 2023
Letter from the Director

The last several years have been extremely challenging for families facing homelessness and food insecurity. 2022 was no different. The end of pandemic relief programs coupled with rising housing and grocery costs have pushed many working families to the brink. Thanks to your generous support, Family Promise was able to respond to this increased need.

Join us for the 24th Annual Family Promise
Golf Outing!

Please join us on Monday, June 5 at the beautiful Edgewood Country Club in River Vale for our annual Family Promise Golf Outing! Guests will enjoy lunch, 18 holes of golf, premium refreshments, two Hole in One contests, and more.

A Creative Financial Solution Provides Relief
for a Family

A family of four, a mom and dad with two young children, recently called Family Promise for rental assistance. They had fallen behind due to a cut in hours at work several months back. As for so many others, their employment had also been impacted by the pandemic.

The Hike for Hope Was a Great Success

For the first time since 2019, the Family Promise Hike for Hope was held in-person on Sunday, May 7th in Ridgewood. We could not have asked for a more beautiful spring day, or a better turnout for the 30th anniversary of this event! An all-time high of 222 participants and 26 teams joined us at Van Neste Square for a three-mile walk to bring awareness to family homelessness and to raise funds for our shelter, support, and meal programs.

Calling All High School Students!

What will you be doing the last two weeks of August?
Camp Lots-of-Fun will again take place the last two full weeks of August (8/14 - 8/18 and 8/21 - 8/25). Children in our programs wait all year for this end of summer camp experience when they can play, relax, learn, and just be kids!

We welcome Susan Ungaro to the Board of Trustees

As head of the James Beard Foundation, Susan Ungaro raised funds to rescue that non-profit from a fiscal crisis. Previously, as editor-in-chief of Family Circle, she’d helped sell that magazine to exacting advertisers.

Sweet Support

On April 3rd the entire Ridgewood community enjoyed the sweetest gift from our local Ben & Jerry’s – Free Ice Cream Cone Day! All of us here at Family Promise were especially grateful because Owner and Chief Flavor Guru, Sibel Berberoglu, and Flo Valdez, Operations & Catering Manager, named Family Promise as the beneficiary of any donations collected during the daylong event.
