My Thanksgiving - Letter from the President

At this time of the year, it’s right to spend time to reflect on all we have, and how we have used those resources to help others. With Thanksgiving soon to come, I want to talk about just some of what has affected me this year.

We have accomplished a lot this year in our programs to provide shelter and support.

Grocery store prices jumped 13% in July, the biggest one-year increase
Eggs had the largest price spike at 38% compared to a year ago, while
costs of flour (up 23%), butter (22%) and coffee (20%) have also
soared. Rising prices often cause struggling families to choose between
providing nutritious food and paying the rent.
Happy News!

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Executive Director Kate Duggan’s first grandchild, to her daughter Erin and son-in-law Frank. William Edward Stagliano was born on November 1st, weighing nine pounds! Mom and baby are doing great and Grandma is positively ecstatic! Please join us in wishing Kate and the entire Duggan/Stagliano family congratulations and much love as they joyfully welcome sweet William into their lives.
We Welcome Denise Martino to the Staff
Denise Martino, Family Promise’s newest case manager, says her introduction to social services began a quarter century ago with her first job out of school -- answering calls on a 24-hour crisis hotline for Covenant House in New York City.

Support Homeless & At-Risk Families on Giving Tuesday

November 29, 2022 is Giving Tuesday, a day that’s been dedicated to giving back. This year, please consider making a donation to Family Promise of Bergen County,as families need your help more than ever to stay safely and stably housed.

Thank you for your support!
A Family Learns to Dream Higher
If you were able to join us at the Gala last month, you heard the heartfelt testimony of N.C., a mom of two who was part of the sheltering network several years ago. While not able to join us in person, her comments were presented via a taped video. You could hear a pin drop as she recounted her experience with Family Promise.

Family Promise Annual Gala a Great Success!

On Thursday October 20th, Family Promise of Bergen County welcomed more than 275 guests to Edgewood Country Club in River Vale for the 2022 Annual Gala, our biggest night of the year. We’re happy to report that the event was a great success!

Thank You Mel Dermady
Beloved volunteer Mel Dermady died on October 20, 2022, at the age of 91. Mel began volunteering with the Interreligious Fellowship and continued with Family Promise well into her 80s. She was a passionate supporter of the Walk-in Dinner Program and was an office volunteer as well. We would look forward to seeing Mel once a week for both her hilarious sense of humor and the lunches she lovingly prepared for the staff. Mel was an avid Yankee fan but loved all the New York teams, including the Rangers and the Giants. And she would regale us with stories of her weekends in Atlantic City.

Thank you, Mel. May you rest in peace. You were loved by all who knew you.
Give Families the Comfort of Home
