| | | | A Legacy of Smiles: Honouring Generations of Dental Care | |
This month, Board Member Dr. Julie Johnson visited our dental clinic with her father, Dr. Thomas Johnson, and her daughter, Abigail McGinn. Together, they posed with the signage at our three dental rooms, each one proudly displaying the name of a family member.
The Johnson family’s dedication to dentistry spans five generations. Dr. Thomas Johnson represents the third, Dr. Julie Johnson the fourth, and Abigail is currently studying to become the fifth. While Abigail hasn’t earned her “Dr.” title just yet, we have a sign ready to celebrate her future graduation. This meaningful tribute was made possible through a generous gift during our capital campaign.
We are proud to celebrate this remarkable family legacy and deeply grateful for the Johnson family's continued support of Community Care.

Elder Abuse – The Hidden Crime
Creating a Safer Ontario for Older Adults
We invite our current CCCKL volunteers to join us for an engaging, conversation-style presentation led by our Elder Abuse Prevention Officer, Tammy Brydon.
What is Elder Abuse?
Elder abuse can take many forms — physical, psychological, financial, sexual, and neglect. In Canada, an estimated 8–10% of seniors experience some form of abuse each year.
Do you know what signs to look for?
Together, let’s raise awareness, ask the important questions, and learn how to recognize the signs of elder abuse.
Education is key to prevention.

As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we’re looking back at memorable moments from past newsletters.
In August 1992, we celebrated the grand opening of our new Fenelon Falls Community Care office that year at 70 Murray Street. The new location featured a kitchen, dining room, and a two-bedroom Attendant Care Unit, offering a warm, home-like environment for temporary care. Meals on Wheels and in-house meal service were also in full swing, thanks to chef Judy Hornibrook and a dedicated team.
Take a look at the full page below and enjoy a glimpse into our roots!

New Community Kitchen Date
Cook, Share, and Support Your Community
We have added a new date for our Community Kitchen this September!
This is a chance to work on your cooking skills by making a soup recipe with fresh produce from the United Way CKL Farm at Crayola. You will also receive some chef support from our friends at Kawartha Lakes Pride! Participants will take home some of the soup they help make and contribute to meals that will be shared with others in our community.
At our last Community Kitchen, we whipped up a fresh batch of delicious and nutritious minestrone soup.
📅 Upcoming Session:
- September 9th | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, 21 Angeline St. N. Lindsay
Spaces are limited—register soon and be part of this rewarding experience! This is a drop in session so even if you're unable to stay the full amount of time, we'd still love to see you!
