Handbags for Health 2024 was a Success!

Thank you to all who participated and supported Handbags for Health 2024. We generated over $35,000 to support Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes and had an amazing time doing it.

We want to send a huge thank you to everyone who attended. Seeing so many of our community members having an amazing time and showing support for Community Care was terrific.

We couldn't have pulled off such a successful event without sponsorships from Economy Wheels, CA Sellers, Mabee & Associates IG Private Wealth Management, Mariposa Electric, Days Inn Suites - Lindsay, and Stoddart Funeral Home and Cremation Centre. A special thank you goes out to all of our volunteers who worked tirelessly on this event for months beforehand and during it.

Our Foundation generates and manages donated funds and other gifts to enhance the programs and services of Community Care.

Living with Cancer Support Group

CCCKL Hospice Services is pleased to host Living with Cancer, a monthly support group for individuals who are currently living with cancer – newly diagnosed and/or undergoing treatment. The group is facilitated by trained, skilled, and compassionate hospice volunteers and provides a safe place for individuals to feel connected to others who are living similar experiences, explore the challenges and even the unexpected positive moments of living with cancer, voice fears, and be heard and understood. Hospice Services’ Living with Cancer support group is a place where participants are free to share laughter, tears, and everything in between and together, find hope and inspiration.

Hospice palliative care respects the whole person, not just physical needs. Early connection with hospice after receiving a life-limiting diagnosis has been shown to have a positive impact on the overall care and quality of life of both the person and their family. We often hear from our clients that sharing with and learning from others who are also living with cancer helps alleviate fear and anxiety and lifts their spirits - feeling connected helps.

When you receive a diagnosis of cancer and your life is turned upside down and suddenly filled with the unknown, it’s helpful to know that you’re not facing it alone.

The Living with Cancer support group meets virtually on Zoom. Please connect with CCCKL Hospice Services for more information at 705-324-7323 ext. 500 or visit our website.

Grief is a Hard Sell

crocus_on_ground.jpg

"No matter how much marketing you do for a grief support group, a grief seminar or grief counseling that you are offering, you will not get an overwhelming response. Let’s face it. Grief is a hard sell.”

These are the words written by Larry M. Barber, LPC-S, CT, director of GriefWorks, CounselingWorks and KidWorks. In his article, he reflects on the fact that many don’t seek formal help or support during their time of grief, despite that fact that we will all at one point be made to confront death, dying, grief and loss.

Visit our website to read more about Larry’s reflection of grief and how you can access supportive grief programs through Community Care.
