Holiday Giving to "Share the Warmth"

ESCCI staff participated in the Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center's "Share the Warmth" drive by donating hats, scarves, socks, and gloves for our local veterans. Most of the veterans served by the Center are older adults, and many receive ESCCI services.

Last week, Deb Kunze, Dawn Ericson-Taylor and CEO Maryanne Ryan delivered these goods to the Center's Executive Director, Jim Seymour. Many thanks to all who helped make this drive successful.

New Year: New Connections!

In 2023, Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands touched the lives of over 17,000 older adults and their families, providing information, referrals and resources to help navigate the changes that accompany aging. With your help, we hope to have an even broader reach in 2024.

We welcome outreach opportunities of all kinds. This past year, we've participated in community building celebrations, health and resource fairs, and made presentations to dozens of support groups. If your club or civic organization invites outside speakers or community partnerships, please invite us to join you. Our knowledgeable staff are always available for events and speaking engagements. Knowing about our services before they are needed can help facilitate informed planning and decision-making. And it's reciprocal: the more we know about the communities we serve, the better prepared we are to effectively deliver the programs, services and resources you depend on.

Giving the Gift of Time

By Darlene Skog, Money Management Program Manager

On December 12th, 2023, a celebratory luncheon held at Alberto’s Ristorante in Hyannis recognized thirty-seven Money Management Program (MMP) volunteers. The annual event honors the dedication of time and service provided by MMP volunteers. Since 1991 Cape Cod seniors have turned to the Money Management Program to obtain volunteer help to pay their monthly bills and maintain their financial independence

Money Management volunteers assist income eligible seniors sixty and over to avoid falling victim to financial scams, remain current with monthly bill paying, and balance their checkbook and statement. Trained and background checked MMP volunteers conduct monthly visits in the client’s home to assist with bill paying.

Elder Services staff, MMP volunteers, and the statewide Massachusetts Money Management Coordinator, Chris Stewart attended the luncheon. Chris brought congratulatory remarks from the Executive Office of Elder Affairs and praised the volunteers for their caring, commitment, and dedication to serving the needs of Money Management clients.

The Money Management Program always welcomes new volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a Money Management Program volunteer, please call Dawn Ericson-Taylor at 508-258-2490. For more information about the Massachusetts Money Management Program please visit www.massmmp.org.
