Hospice Peer Support Groups

At Hospice Services, we understand that life’s challenges can sometimes be overwhelming and leave you feeling very much alone. Whether you’re a caregiver, you’re living with cancer, or you’re facing a life-limiting illness, we invite you to explore our programs designed to foster connection, and make a positive difference in your life. You don’t have to face this alone.

Grief and Illness Support

Our peer support groups are available for individuals who are living with a life-limiting illness such as cancer, end-stage COPD, or ALS. They are facilitated by trained Hospice Volunteers and offer a welcoming space to connect with others who share similar experiences. This opportunity to gain and share knowledge and skills, and to explore the many challenges you face in a safe, supportive environment can have a positive impact on your journey. Our groups are free of charge and meet virtually on Zoom.

Caregiver Support

Recognizing that the responsibility of caring for a loved one who is living with a life-limiting illness can be overwhelming, exhausting, and isolating, Hospice Services offers a Caregiver Connection support group facilitated by trained Hospice Volunteers. Whether you’re new to caregiving or have been navigating this journey for some time, this group offers vital and meaningful connection to others who face similar challenges. This is a space where it is safe to share the many emotions- the joys, challenges, struggles, and love that are part of the journey. This group is free of charge and meets virtually on Zoom.

A Heartfelt Letter to Our Adult Day Program

"Dear Community Care Adult Day Program Team,

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the exceptional care and support you have provided my husband, Jim, over the past year and a half. Your team has made an incredible difference in our lives, offering warmth, compassion, and understanding during this challenging time in our lives.

The respite you provide for caregivers like myself is invaluable. Knowing that my husband was in a safe, caring environment allowed me to take the necessary breaks to recharge and tend to other aspects of my life, while still ensuring he was well taken care of. Your dedication to improving the quality of life for those with dementia and their families is truly a gift.

I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you for “Jimmy” the therapy dog. This was an unexpected, but most appreciated surprise. Jimmy provides Jim with the comfort he needed during the transition to Caressant Care. Jim has settled into Caressant Care and is doing well. Your program provided the much needed stepping stone in his transition to long-term care.

Please know how much I appreciate everything you have done to support us. The care you provide not only to my husband but to all the individuals you serve is a shining example of your kindness and professionalism. You have lightened our journey and made this path a little easier, and for that, I will always be grateful.

Thank you again for all that you do,

Jo-Anne Burridge"

We are deeply grateful to Jo-Anne for her kind words and recognition of our team’s efforts. It has been our privilege to care for her husband, Jim, and to be a part of their journey. Her gratitude truly warms our hearts and motivates us to continue providing the best possible care to all of the individuals and families we serve. Thank you, Jo-Anne, for your thoughtful message – it means the world to us!

Our Adult Day Program provides people like Jim a chance to get out and socialize, partake in various activities and exercises, and enjoy a staff-prepared lunch and snacks together. Our team curates safe and entertaining experiences that are adapted for people of different ages and abilities - from gardening to curling to crafts. While our clients are busy having fun, caregivers like Jo-Anne can use this time to take a well-deserved break. Visit www.ccckl.ca/adult-day-program or call us at 705-324-7323 ext. 484 to learn more about our Adult Day Program.

Valentine's Day: A Time for Love and Reflection

For many, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love—a time to cherish meaningful connections with those we hold dear. However, for those who have lost a loved one, this day can bring a deep sense of longing, sadness, or even isolation. The emphasis on togetherness and romance may serve as a reminder of what has been lost, making it a particularly challenging day for those who are grieving.

Dr. Alan Wolfelt, author and Grief Counsellor reminds us “Grief is love’s conjoined twin. Grief is what we feel when we are separated from the object of our love. Without love there would be no grief.”

At Hospice Services, we understand the complexities of grief and the unique ways it touches each individual. It’s important to acknowledge these feelings and to remember that love endures, even in loss. Finding support can be a powerful way to navigate these emotions and honour the memory of those no longer with us.

We have programs that are designed to provide a safe space to share, connect, and find comfort in the presence of others who understand.

Upcoming Programs:

  • Understanding Your Loss
  • Online Grief Chat
  • Heartwork: Exploring Grief Through the Lens of Art

This Valentine’s Day, if you or someone you know is experiencing grief, remember that you are not alone. Together, we can find strength in community and honour the love that continues to shape our lives.

For more information or to register for an upcoming program, please contact Hospice Services at 705-324-7323 ext 550 or visit our website at ccckl.ca/hospice.

Blue Monday

The third Monday in January, often referred to as “Blue Monday,” has gained a reputation as the “saddest day of the year.” While the science behind this label is debatable, the post-holiday lull, colder weather, and shorter days can indeed affect our mood and motivation. For many, it’s a time when stress, loneliness, or a sense of stagnation may creep in.

At CCCKL, we believe there is no better antidote to the winter blues than the warmth and connection of community. Participating in local programs can provide a renewed sense of purpose, social interaction, and physical activity—all proven ways to boost mental well-being.
