Stay Well with Community Care This Summer!

Falls prevention exercise classes are designed to help individuals, particularly older adults, reduce their risk of falling. These classes typically include a combination of cardio endurance, strength training, balance exercises, and flexibility activities. The primary goal is to improve muscle strength, enhance balance and coordination, and increase overall stability. Classes are led by trained instructors and may also include education on safe movement techniques and home safety tips. All classes require pre-registration and are free of charge.

The low impact exercise class is designed for people new to exercise, who may require modifications from a seated position.

The moderate impact group is a step up from the low impact exercises, with more challenging exercise for progression.

Hospice Services

Healing with Heartwork

Hospice Services recently wrapped up its first session of Heartwork, which is a new program designed to allow us the freedom of expression while navigating grief. Here is what a couple of the attendees had to say about the new Heartwork program:

A piece of artwork created at a Heartwork session

“Such an amazing group – great sharing. So thankful that this was offered! Very beneficial”.

“Two reasons I liked the group was that I was able to express grief through art and I was able to heal a little more. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this group. Being able to socialize with others who understand has been another step forward in my new normal”.

“Thank you so much. So very helpful and thank you for the Kleenex on the tables. Thanks to the staff and volunteers, I absolutely loved this program”.

“Two reasons I liked the group was that not being artistic, the group helped me to express myself in artwork and meet a great group of people who are also grieving”.

Have Your Say About Parks and Recreation in Kawartha Lakes

At CCCKL many of our programs and services benefit from the wonderful parks and recreation facilities in Kawartha Lakes. Our Nordic Pole Walking groups take place in beautiful outdoor parks. Our Riverwalk grief walk follows the peaceful river in Lindsay. We also promote and encourage personal wellness among our clients, which can be supported through the numerous recreation options in Kawartha Lakes.

Kawartha Lakes is preparing a Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan that will assist Council and staff in managing the direction of parks and recreation assets and services through 2040. The Plan will define community needs and interests; identify where parks and facilities should be located, when they will be needed, and how they will be delivered and funded.

Visit JumpIn Kawartha Lakes to fill out the survey and share your ideas about the future of Parks and Recreation in Kawartha Lakes.

Teresa Scheckel

Community Support Services Director

Tell us a bit about your role at CCCKL:

My role as Director of Community Support Services affords me the opportunity to work as part of the Senior Leadership Team, with the primary function of supporting people and programs in delivering a high quality of care to those requiring our services. My job is to contribute to the implementation of our strategic and operational plans so that we can achieve our goals of enhancing service delivery, being a leader in influencing system change, strengthening our operational and environmental sustainability, and empowering our people.

How long have you worked for CCCKL?

Since June 2024.

What is your favourite part about working for CCCKL?

I have been at Community Care now for just one month and I have been impressed by people's commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those accessing our services. Community Care's values align with my own and I am looking forward to working in collaboration with teams across the agency and getting to know our community partners. Everyone has been so welcoming, patient, and kind as I learn more about my role and those things that are important to our organization... many thanks!

What hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?

Outside of work, I am both an indoor and outdoor person. Throughout the summer, I enjoy puttering in my vegetable and flower gardens. When I need a break, I love to get lost in a good book or movie. All year round, I enjoy walking and most of all, spending time with my family and friends!
