📞 Ride Reminder Calls Are Rolling Out!

We’re making it easier than ever to stay on top of your scheduled rides. We have started sending automated reminder phone calls to clients who have a ride booked with one of our drivers.

Here’s what to expect:

  • You’ll receive a call six days before your ride from this number: (705) 702-5440. You can add this number to your phone contacts so you recognize the number when we call.
  • The call will include a recorded message with your ride details. Need to make a change? Simply press 1 during the call to speak with our Transportation Team.

If everything is fine with your ride, simply hang up. No need to do anything else!

This is a pilot program, and your feedback is important to us. Have questions, suggestions or concerns? Reach out to us at 705-324-7323 (option 1) or transportationinfo@ccckl.ca.

Thank you for riding with Community Care!

Each of these individuals brings valuable experience and passion to Community Care, and we’re looking forward to the insights and leadership they will contribute in the years ahead.

A Special Throwback for Our 40th Anniversary

We recently uncovered a promotional video from 2001 — a look back at the services Community Care was offering more than two decades ago. Originally recorded on VHS, the video was found in a box of archived materials and digitized with the help of a VHS player borrowed from one of our Client & Caregiver Advisory Council members.

This piece of our history is a wonderful reminder of how our mission has grown while staying rooted in community.

A Colourful Contribution to Hospice Programming

We would like to give a huge thank you to Crayola Canada for generously supporting our Hospice grief support programs with a donation of art supplies. The timing couldn’t be better—as we launch our summer Pop-Up sessions, these supplies will help bring comfort, connection, and creativity to both children and adults navigating grief.

Our STARS program uses art and play to help children ages 5–12 express their feelings after a loss, while Heartwork sessions offer adults a reflective space to explore their grief through the lens of art. These weekly gatherings are a safe and meaningful outlet for healing.

On July 21st, Hospice came alive with the sounds of laughter and play during a special Pop-Up STARS session on our back deck. Using markers donated by Crayola Canada, children were invited to draw their emotions—happy, sad, anxious, excited—then use sponge pom-poms soaked in water to blur and wash away parts of their artwork. As colours mixed and faded, the activity sparked thoughtful conversations about how grief brings many emotions, and how those emotions can shift over time.

We’re so grateful to Crayola Canada for helping us restock much-needed art supplies, including paints, brushes, markers, and pads. Their generosity is already making a difference for children and adults of our Hospice art programs.

Expanding Access to Primary Care in Our Region

The Kawartha Lakes Haliburton Ontario Health Team (KLH-OHT), in partnership with the Kawartha North Family Health Team, has received funding from the Ministry of Health to enhance access to primary care across our region. This $3.4 million investment will support the expansion of interprofessional health teams in Coboconk, Woodville, and Minden, helping to connect thousands of residents—especially in rural and underserved areas—to timely, team-based care.

While specific funding details for our Community Health Centre are still to come, this announcement highlights the power of collaboration among local health care providers. Together, we are working toward a more connected and equitable system of care—one that ensures everyone in our community has access to the right care, at the right time, close to home.

This Month in 1990

As we celebrate 40 years of caring for our community, we're taking a trip down memory lane with highlights from past newsletters. This month, we’re sharing a gem from the Summer of 1990.

This issue featured Public Relations Committee Chair Cynthia Cockell and MP Bill Scott, and reflected the energy of a growing organization driven by innovation and advocacy. With support from the New Horizons Program, our team worked to share important information through newsletters, create volunteer resources, and promote awareness of vital services, which is a legacy we continue to build on today.

Take a look at the full page below and enjoy a glimpse into our roots!

Meet Charlene

When Charlene Hanchar became a caregiver for both her parents, she faced incredible challenges—but also found deep purpose and connection. As her father entered palliative care, Community Care’s Hospice Services helped the family navigate his final months with dignity and support. Her mother passed away just two years after her father, and Charlene turned to supportive programs like grief counselling and Nordic Pole Walking to begin her own journey of healing.

Her story is a moving reminder that no one has to walk through loss alone.
