CCCKL Hospice Volunteer Wins June Callwood Award

Please join us in congratulating our Hospice volunteer, June Mewhort, for receiving the prestigious June Callwood award at this year’s Hospice Palliative Care Ontario’s Annual Conference.

This award was established in 1994 by the Hospice Association of Ontario, now Hospice Palliative Care Ontario, to acknowledge and thank outstanding hospice volunteers throughout Ontario.

June has been a dedicated volunteer at CCCKL Hospice Services since 2015. She has supported palliative and grief clients and families, but her deep passion for caregiving truly sets her apart.

World Elder Abuse Day

June 15th marked World Elder Abuse Day, which is a day for local and national communities around the world to increase awareness of elder abuse. The day emphasizes the need for all of us to take responsibility in preventing elder abuse. Elder abuse is not just physical. Other forms of abuse include psychological, financial, sexual and neglect. Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario reports that approximately 8% – 10% of seniors experience some form of elder abuse each year in Canada.

At Community Care, education, advocacy and assistance in accessing available community services and resources dedicated to elder abuse prevention are provided through our Elder Abuse Awareness & Education program. The unfortunate reality is that there are many occurrences of elder abuse in our community, and our Elder Abuse Prevention Coordinator, Tammy Brydon, is often the first point of contact for those seeking support and advocacy.

For more information and resources on elder abuse prevention and awareness, please visit our website.

If you are concerned about yourself, a friend or loved one, please contact Elder Abuse Prevention Coordinator Tammy Brydon at tbrydon@ccckl.ca or call 705-879-6151.
