As part of our 40th anniversary, we’ve been flipping through the archives and this snapshot from our June 2000 newsletter caught our eye! Even 25 years ago, we were proudly celebrating Seniors Month, recognizing the incredible value and contributions of older adults in our communities.
Fast forward to today, and that commitment remains just as strong. While the programs and people may have changed, our appreciation for the wisdom, experience, and impact of local seniors continues to be at the heart of what we do.
| | | World Elder Abuse Awareness Day | | |
June 15 marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is an opportunity to stand with communities around the world and shine a light on this deeply important issue.
Elder abuse can take many forms — from emotional mistreatment to financial exploitation and physical harm. At Community Care, our Elder Abuse Awareness and Education Program provides vital tools for seniors, caregivers, and families to recognize the signs, prevent abuse, and support healing.
We’re proud to provide compassionate support and practical education to help protect and uplift our community’s older adults.
If you or a loved one has questions or concerns about elder abuse, we are here to help. Please contact us at 705-324-7323 ext. 300 or learn more at ccckl.ca/elder-abuse-awareness-education/

SAGES Update
We’ve wrapped up another fantastic season of SAGES (Sage Advice and Gentle Exercises for Seniors)! This video-based exercise program is designed to help older adults stay active, independent, and confident by improving strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.
Most SAGES classes will take a break over the summer, however Fenelon Falls and Burnt River will continue to run throughout the summer months.
We are also happy to announce that a new SAGES class will be starting on Oakwood on July 2nd. These classes will be held every Wednesday from 10:00-11:00AM at the Oakwood United Church.
We’ll be back in full swing this fall, and we can’t wait to see you then! Whether you’re new to SAGES or a regular participant, the program offers something for everyone — no matter your fitness level.
Have questions or want to stay informed about upcoming sessions? Contact our Wellness team at wellness@ccckl.ca or 705-324-7323 ext. 181. Pre-registration is required.

July Diners Club Menu
Let's Do Lunch!
| | Reserve a spot at our Diners Club this month! | | Canada Day Office Closures | | Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones from Measles | | |
There has been a recent case of measles confirmed in the City of Kawartha Lakes. While the risk to the general public is still low, measles spreads easily and can lead to serious health problems — especially for young children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.
✅ Vaccination is the best protection.
Two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine are over 97% effective in preventing measles. If you were born in 1970 or later, it’s important to make sure you've had both doses.
💬 Not sure if you're up to date? We can help.
If you are a client of our Community Health Centre and you're uncertain about your vaccination status or need help accessing the MMR vaccine, please reach out to us. We're here to support you. Call us at 705-324-7323.
For more details on measles symptoms, exposure locations, and how to stay safe, visit the HKPR District Health Unit’s Measles webpage or call 1-866-888-4577 x 4050.
Let’s work together to stay healthy and protect our community.

| | Welcome to this update from the Community Care Foundation. Our Mission is to help to build healthy communities across Kawartha Lakes by raising funds to support Community Care's range of services. | | That's a Wrap on Hike for Hospice 2025 | | |
Despite the chilly weather, our 21st annual Hike for Hospice on June 1 was filled with warmth, community spirit, and incredible generosity. There were over 100 people who walked the block and folks came from as far as Keswick, Port Hope and Pickering to join us.
We are pleased to share that more than 400 people donated and helped raise over $33,000 to support hospice services in our community! A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who participated, volunteered, or helped spread the word. Your efforts made a meaningful difference for our clients and families.
We also want to give a big thank you to our local businesses who sponsored this event.
- Gold Sponsors: Economy Wheels-Nissan and Lakeland Funeral and Cremation Centre
- Silver Sponsor: Remedy Rx
- Bronze Sponsor: Cintas
- Hike Heros: CA Sellers & Unity
The generosity of our community is incredible and we could not have done this without you!
All funds raised will directly support Hospice Services at CCCKL. Our Hospice team provides compassionate support at no-cost to individuals facing life-limiting illness, as well as grief and bereavement services for families and friends who have lost someone they love. These services are provided by our dedicated Hospice staff and Hospice volunteers who devote thousands of hours each year to be by the side of those in need in our community.
Visit www.ccckl.ca/hospice to learn more about Hospice Services, or www.ccckl.ca/donate if you would like to make a donation.

Please join us in giving a huge thank you to the Omemee Swans Club for presenting the Community Care Foundation with a generous $1,000 donation! We are honoured to be included in your Season of Giving and very grateful for your continued support to our organization. Your contribution will make a meaningful difference in our work and in the lives of those we serve.
