Marc Chagall's Biblical Images: Elijah’s Vision (To King David)

Art Through the Prism of A Culture

Jewish-American Photographers are unique in their response to the mainstream culture. This program focuses on the origins and development of photography by Jewish men and women practitioners from the 19th century forward. Their photographs reflect the conditions of their lives and those of the worldwide Jewish community.

This program introduces a series of etchings that Chagall created based on Biblical stories. He worked on this series from 1931 to 1956. This presentation begins with Genesis 1 and continues through Genesis 43. Chagall used varied etching techniques to capture multiple textures.

Part 2 of a 3-part series

Each part of the series may also be enjoyed as a single

presentation.

Art Through The Prism of A Culture is an overview of artworks from the oldest known object to contemporary images from all over the world. Mosaics, illuminated manuscripts, etchings, woodcuts, photographs, paintings, and ceremonial Judaica of marble, brass, silver, stone, iron, and glass are all included. This program tells the story of this unique and special culture through art objects from many places and across many centuries.

There must be other Jewish treasures that are still hidden.
