What a wonderful night celebrating our incredible volunteers!
This month, we had the rare joy of bringing our volunteers together for an evening of celebration and appreciation. We shared a Thanksgiving dinner, listened to words of gratitude, enjoyed live music, and celebrated with raffle prizes.
| We would like to give a big thank you to all the local businesses that donated a raffle prize for our volunteers to win! Thank you to: |
Years of Service Recipients
At this event, we also celebrated 30 individual volunteers with our Years of Service awards. Please join us in thanking all our volunteers that provide countless hours (and years!) of compassion and care for residents of our community!

This year, we also proudly recognizes two incredible volunteers for reaching an inspiring milestone — 25 years of service!
Their dedication, kindness, and commitment have touched countless lives and reflect the very heart of our organization. Please join us in celebrating Grant D. and Lorie B. for their outstanding contributions and many years of compassionate service.
Learn more about Grant and Lorie below.

Grant D. has been a treasured volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Diners Club for 25 years. Throughout his time with the program, Grant has devoted countless hours to ensuring that nutritious meals are delivered to members of our community who need them most.
While volunteering with Diners Club in a client-facing role, Grant became affectionately known as “The Potato Guy”, always ready to serve up potatoes during meal service and a hearty laugh to go with them.
Over his many years of service, Grant has approached each delivery with genuine care, taking a few extra moments at every door to check in, share a kind word, or simply brighten someone’s day. In his current role as a driver, his familiarity with routes and attention to detail ensure safe, efficient deliveries to all on his list.
Beyond his regular routes, Grant is always willing to step in when needed, often accepting last-minute shifts to support the team. His reliability, kindness, and community spirit shine through in everything he does.
Grant’s dedication reminds us that small, consistent acts of kindness can create a lasting impact. Every day, in every way, Grant makes a difference.
With grateful hearts, we say thank you, Grant, for your compassion, commitment, and the warmth you bring to volunteerism with CCCKL.

Lorie B. has been a treasured volunteer with Hospice Services since 2000. It wouldn’t be easy to calculate exactly how many individuals and families she has served through palliative illness and grief because her file pre-dates our databases!
Considering she has given more than 5100 hours of her time, it’s safe to assume that thousands of lives have been touched by her care, compassion, and presence on the Palliative Care Unit at Ross Memorial Hospital, in one-one support, and group facilitation.
Lorie is able to create a calm, peaceful space for people to share their deepest heartaches and greatest dreams – to be vulnerable with their truths knowing that they are safe with her. In addition to supporting clients and families, Lorie participates in fundraising activities, special events, and education opportunities.
She also regularly attends our Volunteer Connection where she shares her wisdom and supports and encourages other volunteers and staff as we work together to serve our community.
Everyday, she makes a difference and our hospice hearts are full and true when we say thank you, Lorie.
| | Thank you to our volunteers for the wonderful difference you make in our community! | | | Win Big and Show You Care! | | Accessing Primary Care Providers in Kawartha Lakes | | |
The Kawartha Lakes Haliburton Ontario Health Team (KLH-OHT) is continuing its work to strengthen access to primary care across our region. Many local Family Health Teams, Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics, Community Health Centres, and independent practices are expanding to welcome new patients.
If you don’t currently have a family doctor or nurse practitioner, the most important step is to register with Health Care Connect (HCC). You can register online at ontario.ca/healthcareconnect or by calling 1-800-445-1822.
You no longer need to “de-roster” from an existing provider to register. Signing up with HCC will not affect any current care, but it ensures you’re counted among residents seeking a local provider and helps prioritize you for connection as spaces become available.
These efforts are part of a broader system-wide initiative to make sure everyone in our communities has access to comprehensive, team-based primary care close to home.

As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we’re looking back at memorable moments from past newsletters.
Back in 2004, Community Care marked Community Support Month by shining a light on the people and programs that make a difference every day. The celebration recognized the vital role of community support services in helping older adults and adults with disabilities live independently at home, surrounded by care and connection. Nearly two decades later, that same spirit continues to guide our work across Kawartha Lakes.
Take a look at the full page below and enjoy a glimpse into our roots!
