A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Summer Students

This summer, we were fortunate to welcome four summer students to the Community Care team. They brought fresh energy and enthusiasm while gaining valuable experience and making a real difference along the way. We recently gathered to celebrate their contributions and bid them farewell as they return to their studies. On behalf of everyone at Community Care, we thank them for their dedication and wish them the very best in the exciting paths ahead.

POP UP STARS Summer Program

Submitted by Aylea T., Hospice Summer Student

This summer, Hospice Services CCCKL hosted a five-week long art and grief program for children and youth. This “Pop-Up STARS (Standing Together and Receiving Support)” summer program was modelled after our Heartwork program, which is a gentle arts and crafts program designed to explore grief through the lens of art.

Over five sessions, we gathered, made art, created a safe space where children could share about their loved ones who have died, and shared a lot of laughter and smiles. Through a wide variety of arts and crafts projects, topics like emotions and feelings, mindfulness and wellness, remembrance, grief and how it impacts our bodies and minds, love, and hope were discussed. We are very excited to say that this Pilot Program was a success!

Below are some photos that were taken from a Pop-Up STARS session. The activities shown are “Hearts on the Mend” and “Love in Nature”.

This Month in 2007

As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we’re looking back at memorable moments from past newsletters.

In 2007, Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes received approval to move forward with the development of a Community Health Centre, which was a milestone that reflected years of planning and community commitment. This step opened the door to expanding access to primary care and supportive health services across Kawartha Lakes. Today, our Community Health Centre stands strong in Lindsay at our purpose-built location at 21 Angeline Street North, continuing to serve the community.
