GH North Phoenix Family Feature

We are the Davis family. Our kids have been attending Great Hearts North Phoenix since it opened in 2012. There are two distinct qualities about these schools that we love. The first is the mission of developing great-hearted men and women through critical thought and discussion, an appreciation of fine art and beauty, and encouraging virtuous behavior. The second is the community. Both Gregg and I are born and raised in Phoenix and have watched this city's population explode. We feel our school is a slice of "small town" in our now big, big city. It provides a little balance to the fast pace we juggle outside of school hours. We are so grateful to all the teachers and administrators that foster our kids' growth every day!
The quality of education delivered at our school is only possible with our communities’ generous support of the Community Investment campaign. Partner with us in supporting our great school, please   make your gift today   or take a moment and complete  the pledge you've already made . Together we can do great things.

Your gift makes a difference and we are grateful to our 2019-2020 donors .

Cross Country: North Phoenix Prep standouts Michaela Wahlheim & Jordan Black sweep Los Mezquites championships
North Phoenix Prep collected lots of hardware at the 27th Annual Los Mezquites Invitational held Saturday at Kennedy Park in Tucson. The Gladiators claimed the team title on the boy’s side and swept the individual races with senior Jordan Black (16:51.5) claiming the boys title and junior Michaela Wahlheim (22:57.3) taking the girl’s championship.
Typically a distance runner during track season, Wahlheim is entering her first year in cross country and the standout took second at the Fountain Hills Invitational last Saturday and she followed that up with her victory in Tucson.
Black is the defending Division IV state champion and he helped lead the Gladiators to a third place finish at the 2018 state meet and he has had an impressive season this year with a win at the Chandler Invitational two weeks ago and a second place finish last week at the Fountain Hills Invitational where he ran a personal best time of 15:21.0.
The Nogales girls claimed the team title on the girl’s side. The Apaches claimed the Old Pueblo championship last week.

College Counseling Corner

One-on-one senior appointments are underway and I am thrilled to share that many of your students are diligently progressing through their college application process. We also learned that U of A has just announced a Pell Pledge Grant beginning with the fall semester of 2020. All Arizona-resident, Pell-eligible freshmen attending the main campus in Tucson will have the cost of their base tuition covered. For those that are interested, you can read more about this exciting news at https://tucson.com/news/local/ua-s-pell-pledge-grant-will-cover-base-tuition-for/article_ae0f51c5-ec45-56c0-ad50-b7783e433824.html

PSAT Student Guides & Practice Test were given to all 9th - 11th grade students last week so that they could prepare for the October 16th PSAT Test date
For juniors, the PSAT test is designed to prepare students for the SAT and determine National Merit Scholarship eligibility.
For sophomores and freshmen, the PSAT is a junior level test that is being administered as a practice tool. North Phoenix Preparatory requires that all 9th - 11th grade students take the exam. Historically, students who take the PSAT/NMSQT score higher on the SAT compared to those who do not. This exam also targets areas where the student may need to practice before taking the exam in his/her junior year. Ninth and tenth graders who received the PSAT Student Guide & Practice Test were told not to stress but rather be encouraged by this practice opportunity.

This upcoming week I will be out of the office (Sept 23 - 27th) attending the NACAC Conference for College Counselors and look forward to returning on Mon, Sept 30th with more news to share.

Winter Concert Update

Due to the large numbers of students enrolled in Music and Choir this year, along with the desire to have receptions post-performance, The Fine Arts Department, in conjunction with NPX administration, have decided to change the date of the High School and Honors Choir Winter Concert to Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at Calvary North Church Call time for ALL students is 5:00pm at the church.  This concert will be for 9th and 10th grade Choir, as well as the Middle School & Honors Choirs. The team felt splitting the concerts was in the best interest of students, their families, and the teachers tasked to supervise.

The Middle School Winter Concert will still take place on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at Calvary North Church.
