Dear North Phoenix Prep Families,
I hope that each of you is enjoying a restful and relaxing holiday weekend. You've certainly earned it after a week chock full of new challenges. This past week we all became more familiar with remote learning tools like Google Classroom and ZOOM. 99% of our students accessed Google Classroom by Tuesday of last week, where they found warm greetings and fresh assignments from each of their teachers. We also managed to empty all student lockers and returned materials to families--and 94% of you picked those materials up in a single day. Many thanks to all our volunteers, and special
to Ms. DeSilva for running point on that behemoth of a project. It's been quite a whirlwind lately, but as we look to next week I need to put a few additional things on your radar.
Understandably, the switch to Google Classroom leads our students to have questions about their grades. To provide consistency across all Prep schools, Great Hearts has moved to Pass/Fail grading for the 4th Quarter. At the same time, we are continuing to provide A-F letter grades for Semester 2 transcripts. That way, students who demonstrate improvement can still be rewarded for their efforts.
ZOOM is our videoconferencing service for tutoring hours. It is very functional and fairly simple to use, and our faculty have also received training on safety features that will protect our students from hacking or shenanigans. Please also note that the user agreement for remote learning prevents parents from joining ZOOM tutoring sessions in order to protect student privacy.
Given the disruption to our normal school schedule, Great Hearts has determined that the last day for all schools will be May 21st. Please look for more information in the weeks ahead regarding the conclusion of our Academic year.
Please do take a moment to complete
about remote learning. I want to continue to track how our Academy is doing, and your feedback is vital in the process of fine-tuning our systems. To that same end, we will also be sending a survey directly to students, beginning with 11th and 12th grade next week.
Finally, let me invite each of you to another
