We learn from our researchers. A walk-in patron on a Friday afternoon who wanted to know more about southwest Texas in the late 19th century led us to this beautiful map of the state. The hand-drawn map of Texas was created sometime in the 1850s. The map is ink on glazed linen, and attributed to William E. Jones. Pictured here is a close up of the area around Jeff Davis county, including Fort Davis. Click here to view the catalog record.
New Accessions

If you've ever struggled with figuring out what to give the person who has everything, you 'll sympathize with Sir Ellice Victor Sassoon. We recently received a collection of letters from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip to Sassoon, including thank you letters for gifts Sassoon gave the couple over the years, including sapphire jewelry and an early model instant camera.
