News and Updates from the Hillsboro Chamber

There are plenty of reasons to be "hometown proud" - and motivation for each of us to work together to build and support momentum in our area.

This week was national small business week, and we want to say thank you to our "new" small businesses, the "long" term small businesses in our area, and to the people that took the chance, invested, and work long hours to run a small business.

Small businesses provide opportunities for entrepreneurs, and create meaningful jobs that are an alternative to positions with larger, traditional companies. They boost local economy, keep money close to home, and support neighborhoods and communities.

Our newest small business in Hillsboro is:

Help us welcome Cowgirl Vogue Boutique at the ribbon cutting at their new storefront on 54 West Elm Street. Inspired by a Cowgirl's love of fashion, this is a beautiful downtown shop near Sweet Joy Ice Cream & Candy store on the courthouse square. You can visit the 11 am ribbon cutting celebration and the opening of the Hillsboro Farmers Market all on the same block - with the same parking spot.

Follow Cowgirl Vogue on facebook, and please join us for the 11:00 am ribbon cutting celebration.

This week, there was another small business success story, with Tiny Pancakes Delight joining the Juice Light business location on 105 East Franklin Street. Tiny Pancakes has won the heart of locals with their specialty catering of parties and events with cute bite sized pancakes with toppings, and "Fresas con crema". Welcome Tiny Pancakes, and you can learn more information about them at this link.

As the Chamber, we maintain an online Membership Directory that gives information and services for all of our business, organization, and individual members. The Directory has strong search engine optimization and features, that help people find local businesses, services, organizations, individuals and individual members.

We also do daily radio advertisements for members on KHBR AM 1560, and select advertising in the Reporter Newspaper, social media posts on facebook and instragram, and other promotions.

But we would like to hear from you. Here are our questions:

  • How do you find services when you need them and aren't sure who to call?
  • How do you hear about new businesses in our area?
  • Do you get most of your local information and news online, via radio, or from the newspaper?

While printed directories, maps, and local guides can be expensive to publish, we are continually working to understand how locals get their information, and how to promote the businesses in our area.

We are BIG FANS of the Reporter Newsletter and KHBR AM 1560 local radio. Their low annual subscription rates, informative articles, and information about Hillsboro events, businesses and information, are integral to keeping Hillsboro and Hill County strong. See subscription info at this link.

Let us know how you get your information, and if you have ideas on how we can best promote Hillsboro businesses and events and information by emailing us- (click here to send us a note).

We listen, learn, and are working with other organizations to build strong foundations as our area grows, and new residents and business come to our area.

Although we don't know the exact year the phone book/yellow pages stopped circulating, we still get 10+ calls a day from people that are looking for area information and services in our area. We love these calls, but we are also continually looking for solutions on how to make information and resources available to those with (and without) internet.
