LA Public Library - From now until April every Saturday there are free tax preparation services from 9:30am to 12:30 pm. Walk-ins are available but appointments are recommended. Appointments can be made on the website https://lapl.org/branches/arroyo-seco or by calling 323-255-0537. Please email [email protected], if you have any questions.

Approved Community Impact Statements and Neighborhood Purpose Grants

Community Impact Statement requesting improvements to the Highland Park Swimming pool to be sent to Jimmy Kim, General Manager for the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, Council Member Eunisses Hernandez Council District 1, and Kevin de León Council District 14 was approved by a unanimous vote of a quorum of the HHPNC Board.


The following NPGs were approved by a majority vote:


Neighborhood Purpose Grant #1 Oxy Arts NPG request of $2500 to fund an adult art education program series throughout the Highland Park area.


Neighborhood Purpose Grant #2 Homes Fur All $2,500 NPG Request: "IT PAYS TO SPAY" Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic in Highland Park event


Neighborhood Purpose Grant #3 Speaking for Yourself $2.500 NPG request to fund Advance Care Directive workshops for Highland Park seniors.

Congratulations Angela Gonzales-Torres on being appointed to the 2nd Vice President position on the Highland Park NC Executive Board.

Potential Rate Increase in SoCal Gas

CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (CPUC) PUBLIC FORUMS re: SoCal GAS PRICE INCREASE that will review an additional gas increase via the upcoming California Public Utilities Commission Public Forums. The CPUC holds Public Forums (also called Public Participation Hearings or PPHs) to give the public a chance to learn about and express their opinions on issues before the CPUC. The CPUC will be hosting a virtual public hearings on Wednesday, March 15th at 6pm. No registration needed.

The Gas Assistance Fund

The Gas Assistance Fund is a joint effort between SoCalGas and United Way of Greater Los Angeles, working with non-profit organizations throughout our service territory, to help income-qualified customers pay their natural gas bill with a one-time grant, not to exceed $400, per household. If the eligible applicant is age 55+ or has an older adult (55+) living in the household, an additional $100 is available for a maximum grant of $500. Eligibility Requirements: 


  • The natural gas bill must be in the name of the applicant requesting assistance.
  • The bill address must be the applicant’s primary residence.
  • The applicant must not apply for more than the maximum GAF allowance for the current program year.

Residential households in the U.S. can order one set of free at-home tests from USPS.com. Here's what you need to know about your order:



  • Limit of one order per residential address
  • One order includes 4 individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests (COVID.gov/tests has more details about at-home tests, including extended shelf life and updated expiration dates)
  • Orders will ship free starting the week of December 19, 2022
