NEW! St. Mark's, Pennsburg Announces Part-time Organist Opening
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pennsburg is seeking either a part-time Organist or Organist/Music Director to nurture the spiritual growth of the congregation through leadership in worship and musical ministries. St. Mark’s boasts a 28 rank pipe organ built by Patrick J. Murphy in 2000. The instrument has been featured in the AGO magazine.
Currently, the congregation is worshiping at one traditional Lutheran Sunday morning service. Seasonal services at Christmas and in Lent are also held. Compensation is competitive. Knowing that the pool of organist candidates is limited, we are willing to be flexible with the parameters of the position. Both position descriptions are available on request.
For those interested in Directing the music program in addition to playing the organ and piano, there are vocal choirs, a five octave bell choir, and additional instrumentalists who play on occasion.
Inquiries can be made at pastor@stmarkspennsburg.com or by calling the church office at 215-679-9015.

NEW! Advent Lutheran Hosts Mennonite Heritage Center Executive Director For Special Gathering On Sunday, September 21.
Friends and guests will have a chance to go deeper into the Anabaptist/Mennonite story on Sunday, September 21. The Heritage Center Executive Director, Joel Nofziger, will join us at Advent. He will be our guest preacher at 8:30 and 11:00am. He will also lead an Adult Forum session at 9:45 and provide more Mennonite history.
Worship that Sunday will include prayers and hymns reflective of the Mennonite tradition. Joel Nofziger’s preaching text will be excerpts from the Sermon on the Mount – a key scriptural passage for Mennonites.
Locally, the Lutherans of the SEPA Synod publicly apologized to local Mennonites at their Synod Assembly in Franconia in 2011. Congregationally, Advent Lutheran and Salford Mennonite have forged a relationship that has led to sharing work in a community garden, combining for outreach projects and joining for a Thanksgiving Eve service annually.
Our local community has a Mennonite Resource Center that supports efforts of Mennonite World Relief and a Mennonite Heritage Center that stewards Mennonite history and tradition.

Upper Dublin Lutheran Church to Host ‘Souls Shot Portrait Project’
The exhibition featuring portraits by fine artists of individuals impacted by gun violence runs September 6-30
Upper Dublin Lutheran Church (UDLC) located at 411 Susquehanna Road, Ambler, in partnership with Or Hadash Synagogue, will host the ‘Souls Shot Portrait Project’ opening reception on Saturday, September 6 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The exhibition was created to provide a visual representation of individuals impacted by gun violence. The display is free and open to the public on Sundays from 12:00 – 2:00 pm and Wednesdays from 6:00 – 8:00 pm through September 30. A closing reception will be held on Sunday, September 28 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.
This unique exhibition connects families of gun violence victims with fine artists to capture the essence of the lives lost or tragically altered. The project uses the transformative power of art to memorialize their loved ones while increasing awareness and encouraging a call to action.
The event is organized by the UDLC Advocacy Team, which supports the congregation’s desire to live faith in a meaningful way through action. The ‘Souls Shot Portrait Project’ follows the Interfaith Community Forum on Preventing Gun Violence and the Memorial to the Lost held at UDLC in 2024.
“We are committed to keeping a spotlight on this significant problem,” said UDLC Advocacy Team Leader Chris Tranchida. “Seeing the real people impacted by this epidemic inspires us to keep working toward change in our local community and beyond.”
UDLC and Or Hadash invite the community to attend the opening and closing receptions and the exhibition during public visiting hours. For more information visit www.udlc.org or call 215-646-7999.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING
Knowing how to respond in a moment of crisis can change someone’s life. This fall, we invite you to be part of a powerful and practical training that equips you to do just that.
On Saturday, September 13, Cross Roads is hosting Mental Health First Aid, a one-day in-person training led by Rev. Annemarie H. Cook. This nationally recognized course will give you the tools and confidence to support someone who may be struggling with a mental health challenge, substance use concern, or thoughts of suicide.
Just like CPR prepares you to assist someone in physical distress, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to respond when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis. Through thoughtful instruction, real-life scenarios, and a 5-step action plan, you’ll walk away better prepared to recognize warning signs, listen without judgment, and connect people with the help they need.
Registration and Training details can be found here.
*Please Note: This course includes a 2-hour online portion that must be completed before arriving at camp. An advance payment is required. Instructions for payment can be found on the registration page. Late arrivals and early departures are strongly discouraged.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Cross Roads Office at
officemanager@crossroadsretreat.com or call 908-832-8264 (option 0).

NEW! LAMPa Action Alert: Urge Congress to Pass Bipartisan Housing Reform
Support the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act: A Response to America's Housing Crisis.
Earlier this summer, the Senate Banking Committee advanced the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act (S. 2651) by an overwhelming 24-0 margin. Introduced by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), this comprehensive bill addresses the housing crisis affecting millions of Americans through solutions that simplify rental assistance, support first-time homebuyers, enable zoning updates, expand housing supply, and streamline assistance for vulnerable neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Our advocacy comes as Washington, D.C. intensifies its sweep on homeless communities. The ELCA Homeless Justice Network (HJN) and local interfaith leaders, including Bishop Leila Ortiz of the ELCA Metro D.C. Synod, have raised prophetic voices of concern about recent developments while reaffirming our commitment to serve people in need. The ELCA social message on homelessness reads, “Where God's love for people who are homeless is heard and lived, hope is engendered that breaks the downward spiral of life.”
As lack of available housing has become one of the largest drivers of homelessness, Congress must hear from faith-based advocates that comprehensive housing reform is a moral issue. The ROAD to Housing Act advances many priorities Lutheran advocates have supported for years: disaster assistance programs, preserving rural housing, creating pathways to homeownership, and much more.

Season of Creation 2025 – Peace With Creation
Every year from September 1 – October 4, Christians around the world participate in a Season of Creation, liturgically marking a time where we give thanks for God’s good creation, repent of our misuse of it, and commit to actions and advocacy that work to restore and uplift all that God has created. The Season of Creation spans five weeks between the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (September 1) and the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4). This year, the theme of Season of Creation is pulled from the text of Isaiah 32:14-18, where the prophet Isaiah pictured the desolated Creation without peace because of the lack of justice and the broken relationship between God and humankind. See more resources for the season here.
Witness to Creation with LAMPa’s Photo-a-Day Challenge
Every day of the Season of Creation, LAMPa will post a picture submitted by one of YOU celebrating and witnessing to God’s creation. Where do you find peace? Where do you see signs of hope? What scenes in creation make you think of the prophet’s promise that “justice will dwell in the wilderness and righteousness abide in the fruitful field”? DM us on Facebook or Instagram or send an email to LAMPa@lutheranadvocacypa.org to have your photo and 2-3 sentence reflection featured on our page! You can join us in this daily practice and remember to tag us (@LAMPaAdvocacy) and use #SeasonofCreation2025.
A Call to Action: “The Effect of Justice Will Be Peace”
This year, during the Season of Creation, Creation Justice Ministries (CJM), of which the ELCA is a sponsor, is aiming to promote “peace with Creation” through public witnesses and theological resources for churches. In partnership and support from national and local partners, CJM is planning to organize a series of faithful witnesses at the United States Capitol and across the country to highlight the threats to the environment, while calling on the U.S. government to have moral courage and promote a right relationship and peace with Creation.
Join us as we gather in prayer, testimony and prophetic public witness in
Washington, DC on September 2 and 19. September 2 will feature Senior Director of ELCA Witness in Society, the Rev. Amy Reumann.

Compounding the problem, youth are the most underserved demographic when it comes to addiction and recovery services. There are many factors behind this. If we are serious about changing the trajectory of this very costly and deadly disease, we need to start further upstream and focus on research supporting best practices for youth.
