Scripture Readings for Sunday

Jesus begins his public ministry by calling fishers to leave their nets and follow him. In Jesus the kingdom of God has come near. We who have walked in darkness have seen a great light. We see this light most profoundly in the cross—as God suffers with us and all who are oppressed by sickness, sin, or evil. Light dawns for us as we gather around the word, the font, and the holy table. We are then sent to share the good news that others may be “caught” in the net of God’s grace and mercy.

Isaiah 9:1-4; Psalm 27:1,4--9; 1 Corinthians 1:10-18; Matthew 4:12-23

From the Pastor's Desk

Grace and peace to you brothers and sisters in Christ!

How do you measure all that God has done? This Sunday as we gather together for our annual meeting we will give thanks for all that God has done in and through Hutto Lutheran church this past year.

How have you seen God at work at Hutto Lutheran this past year? Have you had a chance to use your gifts this past year? Have others used their gifts and impacted your life?

The mission statement of Hutto Lutheran Church is “We are one body in Christ, sent in faith to share God’s love, through worship, service, fellowship and witness.” In just the few months I have witnessed God’s love as you have gathered together weekly in person and online, as you have shared your resources and time and gifts in service to others and to the community, as you have gathered together in fellowship and as you have shared stories of God moving in your life.

Thank you for the unique ways that you share your gifts in the body of Christ at Hutto Lutheran Church!

God’s peace,

Pastor Amanda

Congregational Vitality Survey This transition year is a time for listening to God, to the congregation and to the community. As part of this time of listening, we would like to listen to you! You are invited to take an online congregational survey to assess current ministry and faith practices of Hutto Lutheran Church. You can participate in the survey through January 23rd. Click here to take the survey

January 29th we will welcome Deacon Darcy Mittelstaedt to lead us in a special Faith Ventures Worship Service and round table meal.

Instead of a typical sermon, that time will be used for members to consider how God is calling us forward. Online worship participants will also be invited into the conversation using zoom. Worship begins at 10:30am followed by a congregational potluck meal (shhhh it's Deacon Darcy's birthday on the 29th, a cake will be provided for the dessert portion of the potluck).

Please hold the team in prayer as they begin the journey of listening to the congregation, to the community and to the Holy Spirit in preparation for the next chapter at Hutto Lutheran Church. If you would like to send an email to the Transition Team you can send it to [email protected].

Water damage update: The drying out process was completed January 10.  85% of the damaged materials - flooring, wallboard, ceilings, cabinets, mirrors - have been removed.  We expect the bathrooms to be completely gutted this week.  Blackmon Mooring will then present a bid for reconstruction.  The narthex is still usable and dust barriers have been set-up to control the dust, including coverings at the Sanctuary entrance during the week.  The installation of a ramp to make the Fellowship Hall ADA compliant is in process.  Just a reminder, the only bathroom available is in the Fellowship Hall next to the Food Pantry.  Worshippers will have to go out through the Narthex and enter the Fellowship Hall through the side entrance to get to that bathroom.

Stringed Instruments: If you are a stringed instrument player (any level from beginner to pro), we are forming an ensemble to add to the worship experience at Hutto Lutheran Church. We will be meeting for short rehearsal sessions directly after worship on the second Sundays of the month. We will focus on familiar songs with just a few chords and easy strum patterns as we start the group, and you don’t need to be able to read music. We are looking for fellowship with others interested in making a joyful noise unto the Lord! (We have a few ukuleles to loan out if anyone wants to give it a try.)

For more info call Trudy Simon at 512 554 5417 or email her here

HLC Cemetery corner: Did you know that the 20 foot high cross at HLC Cemetery is called The Cross of Hope? It is made of metal I-beams from the historic Hutto Co-op, donated by Ron Whitfield. The cross was built and raised entirely by volunteer labor. It was dedicated at the Easter Sunrise Service on April 16, 2017 by Pastor Marcus Bigott, the same year that HLC celebrated 125 years of existence.

Adult Education January

Ernie Schmeisser will be leading an adult study on addiction and recovery and the AA method of combating it.

We will have classes on the 22nd and 29th.
