Scripture Readings for Sunday

Read more below in this week's pastor's article.

Isaiah 43:1-5; Genesis 8:1-12

From the Pastor's Desk

Grace and peace to you brothers and sisters in Christ!

Imagine, you’ve been on a boat for months and the skies have been black for days. And you’ve been cramped up with a bunch of animals and the same people, day in and day out, with no alone time, with the same four walls to stare at and to stand and sit and sleep in.

How would you feel?

Finally, the rain stops. Woohoo! Time to get off the boat.

No, now you have to wait.

For months and months and months, as the water slowly, imperceptibly lowers, cm by cm, day after day.

You wait for God’s sign – you send out a dove again and again and the answer is still “not yet.”

You must wait for resolution, for new beginnings, for answers, indefinitely.

How did Noah do it? And all of those with him? And all of those animals?

Join us this Sunday, January 29th for worship at 10:30 in person and online. We will worship in the FELLOWSHIP HALL around tables. Instead of a sermon time we will have a chance to LISTEN to each other, to reflect, and to dream.

Members of the transition team and council will be at each table and on zoom, helping to lead discussions and record your thoughts for the transition team to use as we listen this year and write the Ministry Site Profile about Hutto Lutheran Church. We have also invited some of our community partners who care about Hutto Lutheran to join us for worship that day.

Can’t wait to see you there!

God’s peace,

Pastor Amanda

Water damage update: Just to recap the information shared at the Annual Meeting, the foundation leveling for the Narthex will start in the March-April timeframe.  Until that is completed we cannot start the reconstruction phase, so in the meantime, to reach the Fellowship Hall and the functioning bathroom, it will be necessary to go outside to gain entrance through the doors.  We are in the process of gathering bids for the reconstruction so work can begin immediately following the leveling.  We are also getting roof bids & plumbing bids for the hot water pipes in the attic.  That work can begin before the leveling starts.  A special fund has been set-up to collect donations to address this major 2023 project.  Please indicate “flood repair” on your contribution.

Stringed Instruments: If you are a stringed instrument player (any level from beginner to pro), we are forming an ensemble to add to the worship experience at Hutto Lutheran Church. We will be meeting for short rehearsal sessions directly after worship on the second Sundays of the month. We will focus on familiar songs with just a few chords and easy strum patterns as we start the group, and you don’t need to be able to read music. We are looking for fellowship with others interested in making a joyful noise unto the Lord! (We have a few ukuleles to loan out if anyone wants to give it a try.)

For more info call Trudy Simon at 512 554 5417 or email her here

HLC Cemetery corner: Did you know that the 20 foot high cross at HLC Cemetery is called The Cross of Hope? It is made of metal I-beams from the historic Hutto Co-op, donated by Ron Whitfield. The cross was built and raised entirely by volunteer labor. It was dedicated at the Easter Sunrise Service on April 16, 2017 by Pastor Marcus Bigott, the same year that HLC celebrated 125 years of existence.

Adult Education January

Ernie Schmeisser will be leading an adult study on addiction and recovery and the AA method of combating it.

We will have classes on the 22nd and 29th.
