The Heights Interfaith Shelter Is Back And
We Need Your Help!
The Shelter opens on
Monday, October 21
- just days from now!
The Grace community has responded wonderfully to this opportunity to serve, and nearly all of our cooking opportunities have been filled. But we still need sleepover volunteers for several nights i
n the weeks of October 28, November 4, and November 11.
There's no better way to make a difference than to sign up to cook a meal or stay overnight when the Heights Interfaith Shelter is in session. We are proud to offer hospitality in the form of a welcome dinner, and a place to sleep to up to twelve men in need on Monday through Friday nights.
This year, we will host the shelter for four weeks, from
October 21 to November 15
, and we need your help! Please sign up to share a meal and spend the night with our guests.
Sign-up boards are at the back of the church.
If you have any questions or to volunteer please contact Elizabeth Stong, Charlotte Throp, or Emily Horcher by clicking

Reading Christian Art - The Met Cloisters
Saturday, October 19, 10:00 am
Many of Europe’s artistic treasures of the past centuries are ecclesiastical in nature. Have you wanted to learn more about how to interpret and gain a better appreciation for Christian art? Join us Saturday mornings in October for small-group tours of some local museums where we will look at art containing Christian themes, and how different art historical methodologies can be used to understand them. No prior art knowledge is required, and each tour stands on its own. You can go to one or you can go to them all!
Groups will be capped at ten people to start. Information on the series is available on a flyer on the Welcome Table at the back of the Church.
The next tour is a group tour of
the Met Cloisters
this
Saturday October 19, 10:00 am (99 Margaret Corbin Drive, New York, NY 10040).
Please contact
Thomas Baldwin
to reserve a space or with further questions. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Sunday, October 20, at 10:00 am in the Hope Library
We will gather this
Sunday, October 20, from 10:15 am to 10:45 am
to discuss pertinent information regarding our trip to the Holy Land (June 12-23, 2020).This meeting is mandatory for all planning to journey to the Holy Land. Additional information will be given at that time.
If you cannot attend the meeting but are interested in going to the Holy Land, please feel free to email me directly at
arobinson@gracebrooklyn.org
or you can email our Parish Administrator, Ms.
Takisha Brown
. There is a max limit of 30 pilgrims, so if you are interested (or seriously thinking about it) now is the time to get on the list, as Qumri Pilgrimages, our Guide, is now reserving rooms for our stay in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories.
And now is the time to pay the initial deposit of $500.00. You should address the check to Grace Church with “Holy Land Trip Deposit” in the memo line. Please forward your deposit to our Financial Administrator, Ms. Sandra Joseph and she will credit your account accordingly. Please try to have all deposits in no later than
Monday, November 30.
Please make sure that your passport is current and that it is still valid at least 6 months from the time we return to the USA.
The trip roster is filling up quickly but there is still room for those who are interested in going to the Holy Land but have yet to make a commitment. Shortly, I will make the remaining space available to others within the Diocese of Long Island, and other friends and family members of parishioners. Again, please mark your calendars and join me for this important meeting.
Thanks,
-- The Reverend Dr. Allen F. Robinson

Day of Centering Prayer and Visio Divina
Saturday, October 26
This day of
centering prayer
will begin with a brief review of the practice. We will spend most of our time in centering prayer with a break for lunch in silence. We will enter the centering prayer with guided meditations that help us explore how we are relating to our thoughts. We will also engage in experiences of
visio divina
, a form of “divine seeing” in which we prayerfully invite God to speak to our hearts as we look at an image.
Recommended for anyone who would like to spend a day in centering prayer practice. We will meet on
Saturday, October 26, in Guild Hall at 10:00 am
. A $20 donation is requested to cover the cost of a box lunch and to help us sponsor future events, but if you are unable to pay for the lunch, please come anyway!
For more information or to RSVP, email
Lindsay
or call 718-858-4119.
