Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson delivers 2025 State of the County address

Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson announced a historic step in addressing affordable housing during her fifth State of the County address. Chairwoman Hendrickson highlighted the County’s first-ever acquisition of an extended stay hotel for conversion into affordable rental housing. In partnership with the Gwinnett Housing Corporation, the County secured the property in Peachtree Corners with a $7.7 million investment, using funds from the Affordable Housing Development Fund and federal HOME-ARPA dollars.

Additional takeaways included expanding the County’s nondiscrimination ordinance, introducing community service aides to enhance support for Gwinnett Police, and transit and infrastructure planning for a growing county. Learn more about the 2025 State of the County address.

Learn about proposed changes to Ride Gwinnett commuter service

Ride Gwinnett is considering changes that would transfer operations of its commuter service to ATL Xpress. Attend a drop-in session Tuesday, March 11 at One Justice Square, Conference Room 106 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to learn more about these proposed changes and share your feedback. One Justice Square is located at 446 West Crogan Street in Lawrenceville. All feedback on the proposed changes will be documented and summarized for the review of the Gwinnett County Transit Advisory Board and Board of Commissioners. 

Help shape the future of Park Place!

Residents are invited to share their vision for a thriving Park Place area! Join us on Monday, March 17 for the Draft Recommendations Work­shop at Shiloh High School from 6:00pm to 7:30pm and share your feedback on the Park Place Master Plan draft recommendations.

The Park Place area generally surrounds the intersections of Park Place Boulevard and Stone Mountain Highway. Apply for Empower Gwinnett internship program

Get hands-on experience with Gwinnett County Government by applying for the Empower Gwinnett internship program! This four-week paid program offers Gwinnett’s young people ages 15 to 21 an opportunity to gain valuable experience, explore their passions, and develop leadership skills through workshops and on-the-job training. Interns will complete the program with an understanding of how their county government functions to provide services and programs to more than 1 million residents.

To be considered for this program, apply online by Monday, March 17 at GwinnettCounty.com/EmpowerGwinnett. Please note that the number of positions available is limited and not all applicants can be guaranteed a spot.

Share your home with a shelter pet in need

The Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center is seeking volunteer foster homes for shelter animals in need. Some animals that enter the center need a little extra care before they’re ready to find their adoptive home, and through the center’s foster program, animals are given a second chance at life. Foster homes are needed for a variety of reasons, including pets too young or small for sterilization surgery and adoption, animals recovering from illness or injury, those that are under-socialized, or pets in protective custody.

Join the Gwinnett Youth Commission

Get an inside look at Gwinnett County Government, interact with local leaders, and receive community leadership training the through Gwinnett Youth Commis­sion. This summer intensive program includes an eight-week training session and focuses on per­sonal and professional development, public service, and more.

Become a lifeguard in Gwinnett

Looking for a rewarding job opportunity this summer? Become an American Red Cross-certified lifeguard for Gwinnett County’s award-winning park system. Apply for a Homestead Exemption by April 1

Looking to reduce your property tax bill? Apply for a homestead exemption. Owners who occupy a home in Gwinnett as their primary residence as of January 1 may qualify for an exemption this year. Visit GwinnettTaxCommissioner.com/Apply to apply by April 1. We will help determine your eligibility and the best exemption for you. If you already have an exemption in place, you do not need to reapply.
