Gwinnett County has received national recognition for its forward-thinking planning and commitment to a high quality of life. The County’s 2045 Unified Plan was named the winner of the Quality of Life Award by the American Planning Association’s Sustainable Communities Division during the 2025 National Planning Conference held in Denver. The award honors projects that demonstrate outstanding efforts in planning that enhance the well-being of communities.
Gwinnett’s 2045 Unified Plan stood out for its comprehensive and inclusive approach to future growth, infrastructure, housing, and environmental stewardship — ensuring that residents’ needs are at the heart of the County’s long-term vision. Learn more about the 2045 Unified Plan.
| | Ride Gwinnett to merge commuter service with Xpress | | |
Beginning Monday, June 16, Ride Gwinnett commuter service will merge operations with Xpress, a regional commuter bus service operated by the Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority. Current Ride Gwinnett commuter customers are encouraged to review the upcoming service changes and plan for a smooth transition to Xpress.
These updates are part of the ATL’s systemwide service changes to improve efficiency in response to decreased ridership and shifts in commute patterns following the pandemic. Visit our commuter page for more information.

Gwinnett County is updating its tree ordinance, and we want to hear from you! Join us Wednesday, April 30 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at OneStop Centerville, located at 3025 Bethany Church Road in Snellville, to learn about the revision to the tree ordinance provisions and help shape how we balance growth with the care of the county’s tree canopy.
The revised Tree Ordinance aims to balance progress and preservation, create healthier neighborhoods, foster sustainability, and enhance public spaces. The Tree Ordinance revision process is set to be complete by August 2025. To learn more, visit GwinnettCounty.com/TreeOrdinance.

Struggling with food insecurity? Gwinnett County, in partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is helping those in need through free drive-thru food distributions.
The food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The next event is Tuesday, April 22 at Best Friend Park, located at 6224 Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross. For more dates, visit GwinnettCounty.com/FoodResources.
| | Attend an open house for the proposed widening of Scenic Highway | | |
Gwinnett County, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation, is hosting a public information open house for the proposed widening of State Route 124/Scenic Highway from north of the US 78/SR 10 intersection to north of Ronald Reagan Parkway. Join us Thursday, April 24 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Fellowship Hall at Sunrise Baptist Church to learn more about the project and share your feedback.
The proposed widening aims to enhance vehicle and pedestrian safety, reduce congestion, and improve travel time. Sunrise Baptist Church is located at 3000 Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville. Register at GwinnettCounty.com/SR124 or visit the project website to learn more.

Join the global community to celebrate Earth Day! Bring your hard-to-recycle items to Gwinnett's annual Earth Day recycling event on Saturday, April 26 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. From 9:00am to noon, residents can drop off items that are typically more difficult to recycle, such as electronics, latex and oil-based paints, tires, paper, and clothing.
There is no need to get out of your vehicles, as volunteers will remove items from disposable containers in your trunk or back seat. For a list of acceptable items and more details, visit GCSolidWaste.com.
| | Enjoy games, food, and family fun at the Water Wonders Spring Festival | | |
Join Gwinnett Water Resources for the annual Water Wonders Spring Festival on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Shoal Creek Filter Plant. This free, family-friendly event features games, crafts, giveaways, and fairground treats. Attendees will have the chance to tour the Shoal Creek Filter Plant facility and see where Gwinnett’s drinking water is produced, as well as explore exciting exhibits with our community partners.
