The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce will host the first-ever State of the Region with City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton, County of Grande Prairie Reeve Leanne Beaupre and Municipal District of Greenview Reeve Dale Smith TOMORROW, Wednesday, July 14 from 10:00 to 11:15 AM.

The interactive virtual event is open to the public at no cost. The State of the Region will reflect on the area’s response to the pandemic, explore the economic and social impacts on our urban and rural communities, and discuss our municipalities’ vision for the upcoming months while looking forward to the future.

COVID-19 RAPID TESTING KITS FOR BUSINESSES

The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Government of Alberta and the Alberta Chambers of Commerce to provide complimentary COVID-19 rapid testing kits to small and medium-sized businesses. By frequently testing employees, businesses can stop outbreaks before they happen, keeping employees and customers safe.
* A Chamber membership is NOT required.

Rapid testing kits will be available for pick up only at our office in Centre 2000, located at 11330 106 Street, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 7X9, Unit 127.
Designated pick-up times are between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday to Friday (excluding holidays), where businesses can send one representative to collect their rapid testing kits during those select hours.

Alberta is officially Open for Summer

As of July 1, Albertans are now free to gather indoors and outdoors, places of worship and businesses can operate at full capacity, the provincial mask mandate is repealed, and people can safely get back to doing all of the activities they enjoy.
More than half of eligible Albertans now fully vaccinated

More than 1.9 million Albertans are fully vaccinated as Alberta's COVID-19 vaccine program.
New Sturgeon Refinery deal

Under a new deal, the Government of Alberta becomes a 50 per cent equity partner in the refinery. Canadian Natural Resources Limited (Canadian Natural) will continue to hold 50 per cent equity. There is no additional cost to taxpayers resulting from this process.
Alberta 2030: Expanding work-integrated learning

In partnership with industry, employers and post-secondary institutions, Alberta’s government is investing $3.6 million in new work-integrated learning opportunities in key priority areas through the Work-Integrated Learning Industry Voucher pilot program.
Expanding Indigenous businesses in Alberta

Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF) grants are now open for 2021-22 submissions. These grants will provide up to $500,000 to eligible Indigenous-owned businesses for projects that provide social and economic benefits to their communities.
Diversifying Alberta's Agricultural Sector

The governments of Canada and Alberta are supporting the Alberta Hemp Alliance (AHA) with a one-time grant to establish a provincial industry association for hemp processing with more than $300,000 over two years (2021-2023) through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership. 
Government expands Canada Workers Benefit

With the passage of changes contained in the budget, a million more low-income workers are now eligible for a tax refund of up to almost:
  • $1,400 for workers who are single and without children (a group that does not receive many benefits); and
  • $2,400 for workers with families.
A total of 3.2 million Canadians will now be eligible for this support.
The Government of Canada launches online calculator to help businesses apply for the new Canada Recovery Hiring Program

The Government of Canada launched an online calculator to help eligible employers prepare their CRHP applications. This calculator integrates the new CRHP with the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS), automatically showing applicants which subsidy will provide them with more support, based on the information they enter. 
Canada Small Business Financing Program

The Canada Small Business Financing Program makes it easier for small businesses to get loans from financial institutions by sharing the risk with lenders. Up to a maximum of $1,000,000 for any one borrower, of which no more than $350,000 can be used for purchasing leasehold improvements or improving leased property and purchasing or improving new or used equipment. Economic Developers Alberta webinar: Canada Community Revitalization Fund

On June 23, the Government of Canada launched the Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF). This new fund, announced in Budget 2021 provides $500 million over two years to Canada’s regional development agencies (RDAs) to invest in shared and inclusive public spaces, helping to create the conditions and accessibility to stimulate local economies and bring Canadians back together once it is safe to do so.
