Convenient access to workplace health, safety rules

When employers, workers and supervisors follow health and safety best practices, everyone enjoys a positive workplace experience. And this is made possible when workplaces reference and apply occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation.

OHS Legislation Search Tool
The newly developed OHS Legislation Search Tool is a web-based word-for-word transfer of Alberta’s OHS Act, Regulation, and Code. This innovation presents OHS legislation in a familiar search-engine format, enabling Albertans to search for and compile individual sections that are relevant to their workplaces. The ability to create personalized PDFs will make it easier than ever to download and share OHS legislation with colleagues, on posters, in presentations, or during training.

Alberta and Saskatchewan securities regulators expand the self-certified investor prospectus exemption to facilitate investment

The prospectus exemption is intended to allow purchasers in the participating jurisdictions who do not meet the financial thresholds or other criteria required to qualify as an accredited investor to invest alongside accredited investors provided they self-certify that they meet other criteria intended to demonstrate their financial and investment knowledge.

Federal-provincial grant announced for early childhood educators

The Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta and the Alberta Resource Centre for Quality Enhancement will get $5.2 million to help more than 3,300 educators sharpen their skills through free early childhood brain science and development training. The money is part of the provincial-federal child care agreement.

Alberta is exploring a provincial police service

The Alberta government is looking at how best to meet our communities' specific needs. Under the RCMP contract, policing is the same for all eight provinces, three territories, and several municipalities who use these services. The group contract provides little opportunity to meet the distinct needs of each area. Many people across Canada are calling for a re-think of RCMP contract policing.

The Community Policing Grant for Indigenous and municipal communities will help communities develop a business case for their own stand-alone police service or a regional equivalent.

From the global pandemic to the wild fires and flooding in B.C., to physical disruptions due to blockades and strikes, the transportation system has suffered severe disruptions beyond its limits – both preventable and unavoidable.

Canadians expect our elected officials to work with business to ensure the preventable doesn’t hinder growth.
