Roundtables from The Collaborative of the SCFD

The Collaborative of the SCFD hosts roundtables, trainings and networking events, which are open to all SCFD Tiers. Please RSVP to Jannett@Collaborativescfd.org if you would like to attend the events below.

  • Engaging Employees with Disabilities

This training presented by Emily Shuman, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain ADA, breaks down employer responsibilities under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and provides guidance on engaging employees with disabilities by providing reasonable accommodations. Participants will receive an overview of the employment portion of the ADA, to include who has rights and who has responsibilities. We will discuss how to engage in the interactive process for implementing reasonable accommodations, as well as common types of reasonable accommodations. Finally, we will discuss best practices for fostering a welcoming, inclusive workplace to help recruit and retain employees with disabilities. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions during this session. Join on Zoom on January 23 at 3:00 p.m.

  • Engaging with Patrons with Disabilities

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) represents a historic milestone, as it is the first comprehensive civil rights law focused on people with disabilities. The ADA opens the doors to participation in places of public accommodation by prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities. This training presented by Emily Shuman, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain ADA, will summarize the ADA and define disability. We will examine the rights of people with disabilities and the responsibilities of cultural and arts organizations to provide access to patrons under the ADA. Terms such as reasonable modification, effective communication, and undue burden will be explained. Finally, we will discuss best practices for disability inclusion in arts organizations. Join on Zoom on January 30 at 3:00 p.m.

  • Volunteer Roundtable: Annual DOVIA, Denver Botanic Gardens and Collaborative Idea Share

Join us on February 1 from 2:30 - 4 p.m. at Denver Botanic Gardens (Gates Hall) for a DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers In Agencies) Idea exchange/networking session, partnered with the Collaborative of the SCFD Volunteer Roundtable. We'll discuss new ways volunteer professionals are planning their recognition and volunteer engagement efforts for 2024. Share your ideas with peers any new and successful ways to show appreciation to your volunteers: National Appreciation week in April, annual appreciation and engagement events, swag gifts, impact and volunteer hours reports, thank you cards or phone calls and more! After the idea exchange session, participants can walk about Denver Botanic Gardens at York Street to view current art exhibitions on display and enjoy some time connecting with nature.

  • Neurodiversity 101- What Every Business Needs to Know

Learn how employers can benefit from the neurodiverse talent pool with presenter Tiffany Feingold, Co-Founder of the Colorado Neurodiversity Chamber of Commerce! 1 in 5 people are diagnosed with a learning difference--that is 20% of the population. Therefore, it is important for employers to adopt neurodiverse-affirming business practices ensuring both businesses and individuals reach maximum potential. Join on Zoom on February 20, at 3:00 p.m.

  • New Employee Orientation: What is the SCFD? What is the Collaborative of the SCFD?

For new employees or for those needing a refresher, presented by SCFD Program Officers and the Collaborative of the SCFD's Director. What is the SCFD and how does it relate to my organization? What is the Collaborative and how can I participate? Learn how you can be professionally connected to our amazing art, culture and science community in the Denver-Metro area. This will be a general overview about the two organizations and how they are interrelated. All tiers welcome to attend on April 18 from 10-11 a.m.
