- Engaging Employees with Disabilities
This training presented by Emily Shuman, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain ADA, breaks down employer responsibilities under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and provides guidance on engaging employees with disabilities by providing reasonable accommodations. Participants will receive an overview of the employment portion of the ADA, to include who has rights and who has responsibilities. We will discuss how to engage in the interactive process for implementing reasonable accommodations, as well as common types of reasonable accommodations. Finally, we will discuss best practices for fostering a welcoming, inclusive workplace to help recruit and retain employees with disabilities. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions during this session. Join on Zoom on January 23 at 3:00 p.m.
- Engaging with Patrons with Disabilities
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) represents a historic milestone, as it is the first comprehensive civil rights law focused on people with disabilities. The ADA opens the doors to participation in placed of public accommodation by prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities. This training presented by Emily Shuman, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain ADA, will summarize the ADA and define disability. We will examine the rights of people with disabilities and the responsibilities of cultural and arts organizations to provide access to patrons under the ADA. Terms such as reasonable modification, effective communication, and undue burden will be explained. Finally, we will discuss best practices for disability inclusion in arts organizations. ArtsHERE Grant Program Accepting Statements of Interest
The National Endowment for the Arts has partnered with South Arts to launch the ArtsHERE pilot grant program in collaboration with five other U.S. Regional Arts Organizations. ArtsHERE will invest in a range of projects from eligible organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to equity. The intent of the grant program is to strengthen the capacity of organizations that are engaging with underserved groups/communities to boost arts participation, learn from their experiences in undertaking this work, and connect these organizations through technical assistance and peer-learning opportunities.
