Fall into Savings with a Money-back
Home Energy Audit
City Water, Light, and Power wants to remind its customers that fall is a great time weatherize your home ahead of the upcoming winter heating season. The utility's $25 Money-back Home Energy Audit program can help homeowners get started with where to make improvements, which will increase comfort by reducing drafts, while also lowering energy usage. The audit assesses a home's efficiency from the basement to the attic and determine the best, cost-effective improvements the customer can make. The audit takes about two hours to complete in most homes and is conducted by CWLP Energy Services Office staff. This program is available to anyone owning or residing in a residential property that receives metered electric service from CWLP.
Many customers can achieve savings from reduced energy usage soon after an audit. "Many of the improvements we can suggest are low cost and easy to implement," said CWLP Energy Services Manager Gary Hurley. "Helping identify and seal small air leaks and changing lighting from an incandescent bulb to LED are just two easy ways to start seeing immediate savings with the investment of just a few dollars."
The Money-Back Home Energy Audit is a good deal for CWLP homeowners beyond future bill savings. "Not only do we rebate the $25 audit fee to the bill after improvements are made, we also provide customers another $25 back towards the purchase of weatherization materials," Hurley said.
At the time of the audit, the customer will receive a weatherization starter kit to allow them to start making improvements right away. Following the audit, customers will receive a detailed audit report prioritizing the recommended improvements along with information on available rebates showing the savings estimates achievable from each. The audit is covered by a one-time $25 fee added to the customer's CWLP bill, but if any or all of the improvements listed in the audit report are made within one year of the initial audit with follow-up confirmed by ESO, the $25 will be rebated back the customer. Also, the customer can receive another $25 rebate for weatherization materials purchased and installed.
