Dear Friends, 

The joy and good news at All Saints continues! We’ve got lots going on and lots coming up, and every Sunday I am amazed by the good will and connection and desire to be part of community that helps each of us connect more deeply—to God, to one another, to the needs of our neighbors. 

As we all know, there are hard things happening in our nation and the world (though let’s please celebrate the amazing power of the people in Minneapolis that led to the good news that the ICE “surge” there is ending). We might be a bit demoralized after what feels like months of January and the knowledge that we’ve still got a ways to go before Spring arrives (though the sun today is a great mood lifter). We’ve all got life happening, whether that’s the busyness of ferrying children from activity to activity, worry about what’s next for kids or how to care for aging parents, jobs that distress or annoy or just insist we work more than we’d like, and more. 

So, we are not unaware at All Saints of the slings and arrows of life, we do not pretend that life is always easy or that the news isn’t too often grim. But! But, we continue to treat each with warmth and kindness, we find joy as we sing to dismiss our children for church school at the end of the 9 am services and as we gather for fellowship at coffee hour or with sparkling beverages after the 11 am services. We gather together in all kinds of ways, some “official” like small groups and Lenten suppers, some in unofficial ways as you decide to gather people for a games night or for brunch after church or create a group around an interest and invite folks in. And we gather each Sunday to sing and pray and be renewed in our faith that we are in the hands of a loving God who will never abandon us and that we are not, do not have to be, in charge of everything. And that, dear Friends, is what we call Grace.

As we prepare for the more solemn season of Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday next week, I pray that we see it not only as an invitation to private reflection and repentance but also as a time to “turn again” (the meaning of “repent”), to return to the center of our lives--God--and to turn again, not alone, but together as the Body of Christ at All Saints.

Migration with Dignity Sunday

In 2024, the Episcopal Migration Caucus and the Diocese of Chicago Convention encouraged all Episcopalians and Episcopal communities/ministries to designate a Sunday in the Season after the Epiphany as Migration with Dignity Sunday. This year, All Saints has chosen this Sunday, February 15, for this service. After the 9am service in the Parish Hall you can learn more and find resources for prayer and action.

At the 81st General Convention in June 2024, the Church adopted a resolution calling for Migration with Dignity, “a statement of specific principles about migration that resonate with the teachings of Jesus and our baptismal promise to ‘respect the dignity of every human being.’” This set of principles addresses the challenges of global migration in a new way while aligning with the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international laws and agreements, and is consistent with previous resolutions of General Convention.

Friends of the Cofans at All Saints

Sunday, February 15 at 10:15 am

You are invited to hear a hopeful message in our anxious times of a modest size indigenous tribe which is located in the NE sector of Ecuador. The Cofans are working to protect, conserve, and manage over a million acres of pristine tropical, subtropical, and montane rain forests which are located at the Ecuadorian Amazonian headwaters. 

The modestly size Cofan tribe of approximately 1,500 have developed a comprehensive plan which our Friends of the Cofans work to support. The objective of the presentation is to build an awareness as to how you might consider becoming involved with us.There is a Chicago connection that will be shared on this Sunday.

8AM-ers Breakfast Club

Because pancakes are almost a spiritual practice.

Every 3rd Sunday of the month - February 15 is the next meet-up

8am attendees are warmly invited to gather for breakfast right after worship at The Golden Nugget (Lawrence and Ravenswood). (And truly, ANYONE is welcome to join! Even if you didn't wake up for the 8am... we won't tell.)

Note, breakfast is a pay-your-own-way, but the company is priceless.

Every 3rd Sunday of the month we offer Taizé at 6:00 pm.

We offer Centering Prayer on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm.

3rd Sunday Evening Service: Taizé

This Sunday at 6:00 pm

Join us for a contemplative form of worship rooted in the practices of the Taizé Community in France. This service is offered to nurture inner peace, spiritual renewal, and a sense of unity. Taizé worship is characterized by simple repetitive chants with periods of silence for contemplation and readings from scripture.

What is the All Saints Bake Auction?

The All Saints Bake Auction raises funds that support health, education, and clean water in Eastern Africa. Our Atrium 3 students choose the projects to fund, as they come to understand more about the interconnectedness of our world and how they can make a difference in it.

Last year, the auction raised $30,211 in generous donations.

Students allocated these funds to needed projects in South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya—countries that face severe humanitarian crises stemming from ongoing war, climate crises, and food insecurity. Witness Wednesdays is Returning

Wednesday, February 25

We will begin gathering weekly as a public sign of Christ's love in a time of great hardship. Episcopalians and friends will meet at noon in Federal Plaza on Dearborn, between Jackson and Adams (near the big red Calder sculpture), beginning on February 25, to pray for justice, mercy, and the dignity of all people.Being communal prayer, no signs or other materials are necessary, just a willingness to stand in solidarity with those who are hurting. All are welcome.

the Tuesday Delivery Crew. 

Every Tuesday between 12:30-2pm volunteers unload A LOT OF FOOD from pallets on the sidewalk to the Parish Hall for distribution. You should feel comfortable lifting 30-50 lbs and going up and down stairs. Those interested should reach out to Parker at parker@ravenswoodcommunityservices.org.
