News for the Week of Sunday, May 3 |

|
Dear Friends,
O God, who from the family of your servant David raised up Joseph to be the guardian of your incarnate Son and the spouse of his mother: Give us grace to imitate his uprightness of life and his obedience to your commands; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Happy Feast of St. Joseph the Worker AND May Day! Today, many are participating in “No Work, No School, No Shopping” as a way to show we care about the average working person and resist our country’s lurch towards authoritarianism and the concentration of wealth in the hands of the few.
Today we remember that we follow a humble Jesus who honored each person, especially those the powerful of society might want to overlook: children, women, the sick, the sinner. We don’t know much about his adopted father Joseph, other than that he supported his family through the work of his hands. We imagine that Jesus learned the work of a “tekton,” which is what Joseph was called, meaning a skilled builder, which could be woodwork, masonry, or general construction work.
It is so easy to be lured towards wealth and glamor in a society that celebrates fame and excess (what society hasn’t!?), yet we are called to “downward mobility” as we follow Jesus, who practiced the greatest downward mobility from person of the Trinity to incarnation as a human, from life to the humiliation of the cross. This is the way that so many of our great saints have shown us: Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King, Oscar Romero. Each could have been exalted, yet throughout their lives each moved closer and closer to the poor and those in need, exercising God’s “preferential option for the poor.”
At All Saints, we try to resist the glamor and pride of wealth and fame and remember our own humble humanity in a variety of ways, one of which is by supporting RCS, our food pantry, especially during the Ravenswood Run, which was last Sunday. It was glorious! 2700 runners, tons of volunteers, and so much joy. One of my favorite things to do is to cheer for those crossing the finish line and so many of YOU ran the race! And just as many got up at the crack of dawn to volunteer. Lori Gee, Executive Director of RCS, offers thanks below, and I add mine to hers. Thank you for saying “yes” over and over again to supporting the vision of a community where all can thrive.
We get to support another vision, that of cross-country solidarity, this Sunday as we welcome our beloved friend Padré Bayron from Cuernevaca, Mexico. Bayron is a model of selfless ministry, serving multiple parishes, which are open and affirming of all people, and his deep joy and faith are palpable and infectious. You can read more about Bayron, our friendship with him, and his ministry below.
See you on Sunday!
Faithfully, Suzanne+

Mexico Outreach Sunday
Sunday, May 3
On Sunday, May 3, we’ll celebrate the long-term relationship between All Saints and the ministries of Padré Bayron Chanchavac in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Bayron will be here to preach at all services and note the connections that have developed with these remarkably similar congregations. At coffee hour, we’ll toast him with food, drink, and the annual gleeful piñata.
This year, we hope to raise $6000 through your generous donations. These funds, along with those allocated in the All Saints budget, support his local community outreach and supplement the small stipend he receives from his Diocese for his family.

For over a decade, All Saints has been providing support to the church and the ministries of Padré Bayron. This has been a work of joy for this congregation. Please join us at the coffee hour after the 9am service to learn more!

Ravenswood Run - Thank You |
| |
A Thank You Note from Lori Gee, Executive Director - Ravenswood Community Services
Thank you for the many and varied ways that the people of All Saints contributed to a successful Ravenswood Run this year!
We had an incredible turnout of volunteers for hanging no parking tree signs, assisting with the packet pick-up, and all sorts of jobs on the day of the race. All the volunteers made a real difference for the runner experience and the community members affected by the event, specifically our neighbors who show up on Tuesday nights for the food pantry and the families at the local schools where we bring food and meals to the kids.
Plus we had the highest level of direct donations made during race registrations - ever. The run sold out for adults and the kids race. And the first ever All Saints running group - you know who you are! Hopefully this is the start of a new tradition. It’s wonderful to know that on our 30th anniversary we are growing in donors, volunteers, and deepening our relationship with All Saints.
Thank you!

A note from All Saints
If you have photos you took of the run, of volunteers, of your favorite runners, and/or a pic with the Raven in front of the church, send them to us. We’d love to share your participation in the 30th anniversary run!

Ascension Service
Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 pm
This festival liturgy will include a special anthem from our choir, the ceremonial extinguishing of the Paschal Candle for the 2026 season, and, weather permitting, cookies and cordials (leaded and un-leaded) on the front lawn of the church. Picnics are a tradition on Ascension Day, as is mountain-climbing, and the eating of fowl.
So if you are not climbing a mountain or preparing fowl for dinner, please join us on Thursday, May 14, at 7:00 pm.
The Ascension is celebrated forty days after Easter and it commemorates the day Jesus ascended to heaven. It is one of the seven Principal Feasts of the Episcopal Church and thus one of the highest-ranking holy days in our Liturgical Year. Other Principal Feasts are Easter Day, The Day of Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, All Saints Day, Christmas Day, and The Epiphany.

Episcopal 101
Three Wednesday Evenings at 7:00 pm: April 29, May 6, and May 13
Are you new here at All Saints? Been coming for a while, but still have lots of questions about what the Episcopal church is all about? Would you like a deeper understanding of our worship and why we do what we do?
Episcopal 101 provides an introduction to the history and culture of All Saints, the Episcopal Church, and Anglican Communion; how we worship and why; and our approach to scripture, theology, sacraments, and social issues.
Our first session will be an overview of the classes so you can get a “taste” of the topics; we will do deep dives into Theology/Beliefs, Liturgy/Worship, and History/Governance in the following weeks.

Witness Wednesdays at 12:00 Noon | Federal Plaza (Jackson & Dearborn)
We gather weekly as a public sign of Christ's love in a time of great hardship. Episcopalians and friends will meet near the big red Calder sculpture at noon to pray for justice, mercy, and the dignity of all people. We pray especially for immigrants, refugees, and all those who are being detained or deported. And we remember all those impacted by unjust policies and actions. Being communal prayer, no signs or other materials are necessary, just a willingness to stand in solidarity with those who are hurting. All are welcome.
