July 06, 2018 The Distilled Spirits Council today issued the following statement in response to China imposing a 25 percent tariff on U.S. whiskey products.

That's the spirit: Micro distilleries are taking Australia by storm  By Josh Bozin, GQ magazine
Baker Williams distillery_bottles in front of still
The behemoths of the liquor industry may have a majority stake in our top shelves but micro distilleries in Australia are carving a chunk of the market for themselves, according to local Aussie distillers.

There has been significant growth in the micro-distilling industry in recent years, with consumption of spirits and liqueur in Australia firmly on the up. Louisville has another new distillery. But it's not
all about bourbon  By Bailey Loosemore, Louisville Courier Journal
Prohibition Craft Spirits

Historic photos line the entryway of Prohibition Craft Spirits, a micro-distillery that's now open on the edge of Phoenix Hill.

The brand and its products are entirely new. It has no legendary past to share, like the Old Forester distillery on Main Street or Kentucky Peerless Distilling in Portland.

But no Kentucky distillery is complete without a story to tell. So Prohibition Craft Spirits has decided to take up the tale of the '20s, when liquor was outlawed and distillers went into hiding.

Dozens of drunk seagulls have been found on beaches in Southwest England after scavenging alcohol, according to news reports.

Citing the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Sky News reports that some seagulls have died and others are "seriously ill."

"The birds appear disoriented and confused and struggle to stand," explained RSPCA vet David Couper. "We took some video of one of the birds who is staggering around and losing his balance just like a person would if they'd had too much to drink."   Read more.
