Will Chinese-made craft alcohol ever take off?
By Betty Richardson, Thats Shanghai

spirits decanters and chinese herbs and produce
Think of 'made in China' spirits, and baijiu, that notoriously pungent and potent white liquor, springs to mind. But as has been the case with China's craft beer movement and, increasingly, viniculture, the country's entrepreneurial landscape is proving potentially fertile ground for a new breed of premium spirits, both Western-style and Chinese.  Read more.

Savage & Cooke Distillery is crafting a range of spirits on northern California's Mare Island
A winemaker turns to distilling and rejuvenates a historic naval base in the process. By Sara L. Schneider,  Robb Report
new barrels waiting to be filled at Savage _ Cooke Distillery
...And even though craft distilleries are a hot commodity these days, Phinney's new project-Savage & Cooke Distillery-is far from a bandwagon impulse. He's even growing his own heirloom grains. The old variety names for the corn-"The Bloody Butcher" and "Howling Mob"-are the stuff of spirits-marketing dreams. Read more.

Wishkah River Distillery represents
Northwest history  By Kelsey Norvell, Thurston TALK
Josh Mayr behind the bar of his Wishkah River Distillery tasting room

It all started with an old family photo. Josh Mayr came across a picture of his grandfather standing in the Wishkah River during the early days of Grays Harbor posed with a bottle of homemade moonshine. With the idea tucked in his back pocket, Josh never could have imagined how something so small could change his entire way of life. ...After meeting with the then current owner, Sue Watts, in 2011, Josh began volunteering at Wishkah River Distillery. Not long after his initial... Read more.
