Good evening,

Every MLB team has a win.  The Orioles have 3 wins and won a series against the mighty Yankees. The Phillies are undefeated. Christian Yelich is on pace for a 130 HRs.  His OPS is 1.802 better than last season's 1.000.

Check out the APBA GO section for a new tournament starting soon.  Who will be the initial champion?

Congratulations to Earle Shamblin and Tony " Who can't make him his mind what hockey team to coach in the convention tournament" Stevens for their successful tournaments last weekend. Tony also complains that we always deliver his order when he is not home.  Tony have it sent to work.

The number of new tournaments scheduled this year is very impressive. Congratulations to all tournament directors and the participating managers.

 New Sets:
This week we are proud to offer the 2017-18 Ligue 1 (top French soccer league) card set. You can get the set here.

We are still waiting for final prices for meals and room rentals, once we have that information we will put it in the store.

See you at Alpharetta!

2018 MENS WORLD CUP

The 2018 Men's World Cup card set is now available.  32 national teams. 736 players.  The players are carded based on their club performance not their World Cup performance.  Can you manage France to the Championship?  Or can you manage Spain to a better record than the manager hired at the last minute?  Bring this set home and test your skills. This set is $70 plus shipping and handling.

Unfortunately,  I lost control of some team files for the 2018 World Cup set.  For those of you who ordered the set, we will send you replacement cards.  We will hold any orders for this set until we have received the replacement cards and replaced them in the set.  You will not be charged for this set until we start shipping them again.

There will be no newsletter next week.

APBA GO
The first annual APBA GO State Champion tournament is starting in the next few weeks.  There will be a tournament for each state with the state champions advancing to the National Championship.  The Championship final series will be held Thursday evening June 20th in conjunction with the opening night of the APBA Convention.

If you want to enter this tournament send an email to custsupp@apbagames.com.  The subject line should read  APBA GO State Tournament and then the state tournament you are entering.  For example, if you live in Georgia you would put Georgia.  Include three teams in your email.  Only teams from regular season sets are eligible. The great teams and other specialty set teams are not eligible.  If two manager select the same team, the first one to send us an email gets that team.  Registration ends Sunday April 14th.

All rounds except the semi-finals and finals will be best of three.  The semis and finals are best of five.

Be the initial APBA GO State Champion tournament champion.  START SCOUTING NOW.

You now have the capability to operate a draft league in APBA GO.  With custom teams and collections, all the statistics of your draft team are computed automatically.  Who is going to start the first APBA GO draft league?

There is some confusion that APBA GO is only available as a subscription service.  That is not correct.  You still have the option to purchase individual teams or seasons for APBA GO.

TOURNAMENT REPORT

REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS

This past Saturday, two regional tournaments were contested; Florida's Spring Break Reality APBA Baseball Tournament under the direction of Tony Stevens and The 2019 Heartland APBA Baseball Tournament under the direction of Earle Shamblin.

Florida's Spring Break Reality APBA Baseball Tournament

It was a great day for 13 tournament participants and the New York Yankees franchise. The 1927 New York Yankees and the 1998 New York Yankees met in the finals of Florida's Spring Break from Reality APBA Baseball in St. Cloud, Florida this weekend. In a tight 3 game series, the 1998 version pulled out a 13th inning 6-5 victory to take home the day's prize. Several teams had hoped to drink from the unique trophy and some started off the day as if they should be considered the favourites. Phil Blinn's 2018 Boston Red Sox jumped out to an early start in the Davey Johnson Division, but couldn't continue the run support as his day wore down. In the end, Anthony Orlando's 1998 New York Yankees went 6-2 to capture the division. Visiting from Grand Rapids, Michigan, John Roels, spending two weeks in southern Florida helping rebuild a house destroyed by a hurricane, took time to relax and enjoy some rolls using the 1927 New York Yankees. Although they had a similar record (5-3) with John Cody's 1999 Atlanta Braves, Roels team advanced on Head-to-Head run differential and captured the second playoff seed. In the Buck Showalter Division, Tom Battiato's 2001 Seattle Mariners proved to be a formidable team who's record (5-3) was duplicated by Al Billup's 1998 Atlanta Braves. The Mariners and the Braves advanced with Seattle taking the #3 seed and the Braves slotted into the #4 seed as the Wild Card team. The first round of the playoffs saw the 1927 Yankees sweep the 2001 Mariners. All Tom could do was watch game 3 of the 1998 Braves vs 1998 Yankees match. Billups' 1998 Braves fought hard, but just couldn't hold off "Derek Jetah" (as manager Orlando says) and his teammates.

The weekend was a lot of fun with APBAholics getting re-acquainted during what has become a Florida tradition, the Friday Night pre-Tournament meal. Florida's next tournament is RollAPBAlooza 2019. After being removed from it's hopeful initial location and rejecting returning to the smallish Brooksville venue, a new home is hoped to be found in Clermont, Florida at Lake Hills Church. The tournament theme is 100 or more loss teams and will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2019. The cost will be $20. There will be a team selection draft lottery. Email Tony Stevens at AandTStevens@Gmail.com for more details.

Congratulations once again to Anthony Orlando and his 1998 New York Yankees on their tournament championship and a special thanks to Tony Stevens for directing this very successful annual tournament.

The Heartland APBA Baseball Tournament

The 2019 Heartland APBA Baseball Tournament with eight attendees was a great time! There were several returning managers and a couple of new ones. There were two divisions with the 2011 Giants managed by Earle Shamblin winning one division and the 1974 Reds managed by Don Wegley winning the other division, both receiving byes in the first round of the playoffs and able to reset their pitching rotation.  The 1977 Pirates managed by Roger Gilbert faced off against the 2002 Red Sox managed by the defending Champion Jason Kersey. The 62 Dodgers managed by Blake Wegley and the 1972 Cardinals managed by Steven Thorp went at it on the other side of the bracket. The 1977 Pirates advanced to face the 2011 Giants and the 1972 Cardinals moved on the play the 1974 Reds. The 1977 Pirates running thin on pitching started Bruce Kison (D) and took down the 2011 Giants and Bumgarner as the Giants bats went cold.  The 1974 Reds team beat the 1972 Cardinals to advanced to the Championship against the Pirates. They couldn't have asked for a better Championship as the Reds were down one run in the 9th with Gossage on the mound, but Concepcion stepped up and hit one deep into the night to take it to extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Morgan singled and stole second then Driessen singled and Morgan scored the game winner. Congratulations to the Champion Don Wegley and his 1974 Reds! Fun fact - Jason Kersey played out the entire tournament on Apba Go before hand and the same two teams were in the finals and the Reds won the Championship by the same score, 5-4.  Amazing! A special thank you goes out to Earle Shamblin for directing a fun-filled tournament which was enjoyed by all attendees.

The next tournament is scheduled this coming Saturday April 6th; The Twin Cities APBA Baseball Tournament (TCABT-XI ) in Maple Grove, Minnesota under the direction of Jim Fraasch. Good luck and have fun guys; I know you always do!

Cooperstown League Openings-  Current 2017 season running second half thru March 2019.  Looking for GM's/Coaches to come join in the fun of this modern day 24 team (12 AL/12 NL, 3 - 4 team divisions) BBW 5.75 league.  It is a fantasy roster league where AL players play in the AL, NL players play in the NL, no interleague play until the WORLD SERIES. This league is currently in its 7th season under construction, has 40 man carded rosters plus prospects to let GM's put their stamp on the organizations.  Seasons run from late September thru March, 160 game schedule-played in MLB STYLE series, with Home and Away games...every team has their own Stadium assigned to the organization, play with 27 man active roster throughout the season (up to 40 for final month)..OFF-SEASON cut-down... uses official disk.. FULL AIM..  minor league draft.. Playoffs with 3 division winners plus next best 2 records in each league playing a 1 game Wild Card play in game.. Weekly line-up scheduled, daily e-mailed results, game also uses micromanagers as fall back-but teams are eligible to make line-up changes if an injury was to affect their weekly line-ups (daily team status report.. sent as part of daily results package).  Obviously not everyone can devote a lot of time to this, that's where the micromanagers assist in the season moving forward.  AL leagues play with the DH, not so in the NL.  Organizations are tied to ACTUAL MLB player movement.. meaning if players become free agents, then Cooperstown will follow suit, every off season player movement is tracked ..the organizations player list updated (sent to GMs) and the off-season begins (Cut-downs-Free Agents draft -2 phases**those with draft picks attached** and those without picks attached), then an open claim on remaining carded players.  Once the season is final and standings have been established.. a rookie DRAFT of prospects will take place.  If interested you can e-mail Tracy at  Ratbo68621@aol.com and note as Cooperstown Interest.  Come join the fun to finish out the 2017 season, and see if your interest is peaked to continue permanent ownership of your organization.  The league has been set up with written constitution rules, so if interested I can send a package of the rosters and rules out as soon as possible.

I trust this column is continuing to bring many APBA players together be it through regional tournaments or league play.  I am glad that we can continue to provide this service to the APBA community and further promote brotherhood within our beloved hobby.
