News from Megan-Ellyia Green

 Vol. 22 - Apr. 28, 2015

 Alderwoman,
15th Ward

There is much exciting news to report this week!

Vote Results:  Five Projects Funded
The Participatory Budgeting results are in! After eight days of casting ballots for 15th Ward improvement projects at various public locations, residents voted as follows:

1. Street Lights - 283 (Funded)
2. McDonald Park Restrooms - 199 (Funded)
3. Crosswalks - 189 (Funded)
4. 50/50 Sidewalk expenditure increase - 175 (Funded)
5. Trashcans - 163 (Funded)
6. Dog Park - 118
7. Alley Paving - 84
8. Neighborhood Entrance Signs - 51

The top five projects will be implemented with $100,000 in funding from our Ward capital budget over the next two years. Based on the chosen priorities, I met with the Board of Public Service to finalize our Ward budget. Project implementation will occur in phases:

2015
A majority of voters chose Street Lighting as the number one priority, so that expenditure is set for this fiscal year. Critical r epairs to the McDonald Park restrooms will go forward this year as well.

2015 - 2016
Safe-crosswalk improvements will begin this fiscal year; the remaining will be completed next year.

The strategic placement of new trash cans is also a two-year process. Placement is contingent upon agreements with nearby property owners to ensure the trash cans are emptied regularly. Over the next several months, I will work to get those agreements in place.

2016
Funding for the 50/50 Sidewalk Repair Program will become available next year.

Thank you to everyone in the 15th Ward who voted! I also want to thank our Participatory Budgeting committee leaders, all the volunteers, and the local merchants who provided convenient polling locations. Together, you helped to make this endeavor a huge success!

Ward Traffic Study Set

A few months ago, I submitted a request for a traffic study to be conducted in the 15th Ward. A traffic study can help determine if and where stop signs need to be placed, and what other solutions are needed to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The traffic study officially has been funded for this fiscal year. Look for updates about public input sessions on how to keep our streets safe.

TGS Wins Recycling Award

Tower Grove South is tops when it comes to recycling! As a participant in the River City Recycling Rewards program, our residential recycling and trash amounts are tracked in cooperation with the City's Refuse Division.

For the month of March 2015, the program awarded a $100 VISA Gift Card to Tower Grove South for the highest recycling tonnage in the program with 3.32 tons. Great job, TGS residents--let's keep it up!

For more information about the program (and how to encourage your neighbors to recycle more) please visit the City of St. Louis Recycling Program Facebook page.

Reminder:  Transportation Town Hall
