Matthew 6:5-13

as a Spiritual Discipline -
The Lord's Prayer' as Our Guide"

This Sunday
Last Wednesday we stopped for a little while and remembered that we are God's and God's alone.  It was Ash Wednesday and the beginning of our Lenten season.  As odd as it seems to many, and as Catholic as it seems to others, we were physically marked with the sign of the cross; physically marked as a reminder that our souls are marked by the cross, our lives defined by the cross and our direction directed by the cross.  We are disciples of Jesus Christ, first and foremost.  Therefore on this first Sunday in Lent we will be studying the prayer taught to us by Jesus.  Why the Lord's Prayer?  This Sunday is also the first Sunday of our focus on stewardship and this prayer pretty much says it all.  It speaks of a God who offers us all that we need.  It speaks of God's sovereignty, God's kingdom, and our role on this earth.  It speaks of giving and of receiving.  So, as we enter into this time please prepare by reading Matthew 6: 5 - 13.

Camp Sunday Success
Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated Camp Ministries through worship and our annual Taco Bar Fundraising lunch last Sunday. From hearing stories from camp representatives, singing favorite camp songs and eating yummy tacos, it was a special and meaningful Sunday. A big thank you to Sheep (Patty Ferguson), Kim and Gwen Brewer, Linda Hannis, Dorothy Beeman and Roger Ingalls for putting on the Taco Bar where we fed 99 people! We raised $1108 from the taco bar luncheon that will be sent to the district office for camp scholarships. Thank you for supporting Camp Ministries. Please check out our Facebook page for pictures from this special Sunday.

Welcome New Staff
We are pleased to welcome Hanae Straub to our staff as our new Second Service Music Director.  Hanae Straub graduated from Washington State University with a Master of Arts in Choral Music Education in 2016 and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2015 and has completed the first level of Kodály certification.   As a soprano vocalist, Hanae has won many competitions at the state and regional level and has performed in many shows. As a choir member, Hanae has traveled internationally with the Washington State University Concert Choir.  She works part-time as the director of an intermediate boys' choir through Bellevue Youth Choirs.   Hanae was been involved in choral music from an early age and singing and creating music with others is one of her greatest joys. She loves spending time with her husband, Nathan, who is also a vocalist and church choir director,  and  her French Bulldog, Francis Poulenc.  They are expecting their first child in July.

We are also pleased to welcome Pam Johnson to our staff as our new Bell Choir Director.  She is a familiar face at Aldersgate, having been the interim director of the Bell Choir since September and a regular substitute director in the past.  Pam attended Green River Community College, earning an AA degree in Performing Arts (Theatre Major, Music Minor).  Previously she has directed the Bell Choirs at Kent United Methodist Church.  She has experience directing children's, youth and adult Bell Choirs.  Pam is the granddaughter of long time church members Lea and Ferrel Fox.
