"A Focus on Family"
Sermon
"A Model of Connection"
Scripture
Colossians 3:12-17
This Sunday
What is it that every healthy parent wants for their children? I think for most of us it's not wealth and fame. It is happiness, confidence, self-esteem, and some kind of success in whatever their dreams may be. There are some things we, as parents, grandparents, church members and others need to understand if we want to be a healthy part of that "Dream come true" for our children. There is a model, developed in research, consistently successful, proven and practiced. And what's remarkable about this model is that it works in any setting, with any family configuration, and really, with any organization. It was initially called the Social Development Model. It's really the Jesus model and one needed in families today. In many ways this scripture provides us a model for the Christian home. But to get there we have to have clear expectations, a clear understanding of our own situation, background and health; we have to know our roles, know we have support particularly if we are a single parent, and know that God is walking with us as is the church. But there is more. This Sunday we'll walk through a model that spans the generations. It is what Jesus used, what the early church utilized, and what we've seen over and over again create health in families, communities, schools, and yes, even churches.

The challenge continues. Learning about Jesus miraculously feeding 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish (Matt. 14:13-21), the Sunday School kids challenged the church to donate 5,000 food items to the food bank.
