Dear Friends,

A number of clergy having been talking about how we and our parishes might offer a faithful response in this alarming time for our nation. What does it mean to offer Christian Witness?

We have decided to offer “Witness Wednesdays,” beginning next week on June 4. Clergy from various Episcopal churches—All Saints, Church of our Savior, St. Chrysostom’s, Grace, St. John’s, and St. Peter’s—will offer a witness each Wednesday at the Federal Plaza downtown from 12-1 pm, praying for our nation, our government, and for those harmed by government actions.

In the first few weeks, we will pray for those who have been disappeared and deported without due process. We hope those working in the Federal Building will experience our presence as prayerful for them, too. 

We’re making this up as we go along but feel called not to be silent. We plan to gather each Wednesday for the summer and welcome anyone who wants to join us in prayer during that time. So if you feel called to offer a prayerful witness, please join us! Talk to Courtney or me for more information.

And of course there are many other things going on at church! Last Sunday we had a lovely Rogation procession, tomorrow we head to the Cathedral for the ordination of Bryan and Colin, this Sunday is the last Sunday of Easter (and the first Sunday of the month—come to announce birthdays and anniversaries!), and next Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost when we’ll have baptisms at 9 and 11. Newcomer Conversations

THIS Sunday, June 1

Are you new to All Saints? Perhaps you’ve just attended once or twice and would like to learn a little bit more about our community. 

Join us after the 9 AM and 11 AM services for a 15-20 minute gathering to connect with other newcomers and briefly hear from one of our clergy and vestry members. We will meet in the reading room adjacent to the sanctuary for coffee, treats, and conversation. 



Next Sunday, June 8, is Pentecost Sunday!

Pentecost is a major feast, commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit. On this day we celebrate the presence of the Holy Spirit within us and among us. Pentecost is one of the four feast days that we celebrate baptism. Wear your red (or any other "fire" color)!

Centering Prayer at All Saints

Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in the Reading Room

Silence is God's first language" (St. John of the Cross)

Join practitioners of centering prayer on Wednesdays in the Reading Room at 7 pm for 20 minutes of centering prayer, followed by an optional time of discussion. Interested in learning more? Doors open at 6:45 for those who would like instruction in and more information about silent prayer.



Newcomer Lunch

Are you new to All Saints? Are you interested in meeting other newcomers and learning more about our community? If yes, please join us for our next Newcomers lunch. We’ll gather in the parish hall for a casual luncheon, conversation, and a chance to learn more about All Saints and ways to continue connecting with our community. Please RSVP so we can plan food accordingly.

In the past eight months, members of this community have met with seven Alderpeople from the north side of Chicago to build our relationships with our elected officials. 

In the past month we have written and delivered over 70 letters to our IL state Representatives and Senators urging them to support a budget line item of $15M for housing for working class families. 

This past Sunday members of All Saints joined over 200 people from across Chicago to celebrate 61 new homes this year and learn about the work that is still left to do – to secure lots, cut red tape in City Hall, and find investment dollars.

VOLUNTEER AT RAVENSWOOD COMMUNITY SERVICES (RCS)

RCS is looking for volunteers to join

the Tuesday Delivery Crew. 

Every Tuesday between 12:30-2pm volunteers unload A LOT OF FOOD from pallets on the sidewalk to the Parish Hall for distribution. You should feel comfortable lifting 30-50 lbs and going up and down stairs. Those interested should reach out to Parker at parker@ravenswoodcommunityservices.org.

True Stories for the Stage 

Storytelling Workshop meeting for 7 weeks at All Saints

Thursday nights: 6:00 - 9:00 pm

June 12 - July 31

(workshop has limited space, with a max of just 7 participants)



Cost is $360 for the full session, with a sliding scale for anyone who needs. 

Is there a true story you’ve been longing to tell… or more than one?! Is there a solo show, a stand-up set, or an essay that’s been tugging on your sleeve? Telling your story live, in a room full of people who care about community, is fun… and it matters! A well-told true story helps listeners feel less alone, brings tellers an exhilarating sense of accomplishment, and lets everyone involved feel more connected during divisive times.

If you want expert coaching to craft and perform your story with confidence, humor, and authentic presence, join us this summer on Thursday evenings at All Saints where a small, supportive cohort of kind, wise, creative souls will bring true stories to the stage.  The final evening we meet, July 31st, is a live story show & potluck dinner with an opportunity to share selected stories.

Facilitator Janna Sobel is the co-founder of the Live Storytelling programs at The Second City and Chicago Dramatists, and a public speaking coach for TED Talkers, Moth Grand Slam winners, keynote speakers, and stand-up comics. Janna is Host and Producer of the beloved, long running story show Here Chicago, and the writing workshop Stories from Here. An award-winning live storyteller herself, Janna also teaches Storytelling in places like The Booth School of Business, the IDEA Center at Notre Dame, and The Chicago Cultural Center. She loves supporting essayists, memoirists, ministers, teachers, organizers and public speakers of all stripes in putting words to what matters to them.
