Dear Friends,

This weekend, many celebrations come together: ongoing Pride celebrations, Father’s Day on Sunday, the observation of Juneteenth. It’s good to celebrate! 

This Sunday we’ll continue to hear from the book of Genesis when Sarah laughed at the idea that she would become a mother and Abraham a father in their old age, so come celebrate Father’s Day with some joy and laughter!

We’ll sing some great hymns from our hymnal Lift Every Voice and Sing to point to Juneteenth, the great day, newly made a federal holiday, that remembers the emancipation of enslaved people after the Civil War.

And we look towards the Chicago Pride Parade next weekend; if you’d like to march with welcoming churches, see the announcement below.

March with the Episcopal Diocese in the Chicago Pride Parade

On June 25, the Diocese of Chicago will march in the 2023 Pride Parade with the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches. The parade officially kicks off at noon at Montrose and Broadway in Uptown and treks through the north side of the city, ending near the intersection of Diversey Parkway and Sheridan Road in Lincoln Park.

Clyde Propst: Funeral and Reception

We will remember Clyde and commend her to God on Saturday, June 17 with a funeral at 11:00am at All Saints, followed by a reception in the parish hall.

Please plan to join us that day to honor and celebrate Clyde and her faithfulness to and love of All Saints and our children.

All Saints Bread Makers

Baking communion bread is a great way to serve the All Saints community… and there's nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread filling your kitchen!

We are in need of additional breadbakers and two people who would like to coordinate this ministry. If you’re interested in serving as a ministry leader, please contact Courtney.

THIS SUNDAY: Newcomers Lunch!

Are you new to All Saints in the past six months? Join us at our next newcomers lunch on this Sunday, June 18 from 12:45-2:00pm at All Saints. Come for a light lunch, conversation about All Saints, and ways to connect with others. 

We know it’s also Father’s Day, so we promise not to take up too much of your day. It'll be a great chance to meet other newcomers as well as members of our vestry (elected leaders).

Caregiver Connections, a monthly gathering for caregivers to share experiences, listen, vent, get a break, compare notes, and occasionally hear from experts on specific resources will hold its first meeting Monday, June 19 at 7:00pm in the reading room. Please join us!

All Saints Book Club,

Summer 2023 Meeting Schedule

The All Saints Book Club is now supporting the book sanctuary initiative. We plan to include at least one banned book each year in our 2023 reading plan. 

The All Saints Book Club meets on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm on Zoom. If you are not a regular attendee, email Mike Burke at mebcat@gmail.com for a meeting invite/

Come Make Good Trouble with Mayor Johnson! 

Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 9 at 4:00pm! Be part of a delegation from All Saints joining over 900 people from across Chicago to make our voices heard.

While still a candidate, Mayor Johnson committed to meeting within 90 days of taking office. United Power is holding Mayor Johnson to that pledge and we'll be asking him to commit to assistance building homes and reclaiming communities on the South and West Sides.

On June 18 at 2:00pm, All Saints will host the Lakeside Pride Clarinet Choir as they celebrate Pride Month, performing works by LGBTQIA+ composers - their first concert in over three years! Admission is free and all are invited! 

Two announcements about the Revive Christmas Basket Program

After many years of faithful leadership, Jacqueline WayneGuite is passing the coordination of the ReVive Christmas Basket program off to Katy Kelsey-Morgan. Katy's looking for a second person to work on this program and she's hoping to add a gift-wrapping party on the Saturday afternoon before boxes are due. If you're interested, email her or Courtney.

ReVive is also looking for volunteers on specific Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in June and July to register participants at their office (1668 W. Ogden Ave.). Only basic computer skills are required and training will be provided. Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts are available. Individuals and groups can sign up on ReVive's website or by completing the Google form here.

An All Saints Financial Update

All Saints has secured two bank loans: one to cover the remaining debt on the line of credit for the Rectory renovation and one to pay off our debt from Bishops & Trustees to purchase the building at 4546 N. Hermitage. Although the parish approved loans at interest rates up to 8%, both of our loans are at 5.95% for the next five years. We also paid towards principal on both loans—$10,000 towards the loan for the Rectory and $30,000 towards the loan for 4546. 

We combined the Rectory loan with the loan we had remaining from the 1883 Capital Campaign ($66,000) for a total of $287,000; the 4546 loan is for $224,000. Those amounts include the closing fees. We will pay the interest payments on the Rectory/Capital Campaign loan from our operating budget and the interest payments on the 4546 loan from income from the three rental units in the building.

Thank you to our Finance Committee, the Vestry, and all of you for studying our financial needs and making a careful plan to manage our debt!
