Welcome to the premier issue of The American Flag Rugby Association newsletter.
At AFR we are dedicated to helping kids fall in love with rugby ONE community at a time. With that idea in mind we aim to have CO-ED flag rugby become a permanent fixture in your towns sports calendar. Spread the word and help make us the "little league" of flag rugby!
With each issue we will update our fans on upcoming AFR happenings, try to highlight players and programs as well as bring you important rugby news from the US and around the world!

AFR to exhibit at USA 7's in Las Vegas and Collegiate Championships in Philly | |
The IRB World Series 7's tournament makes its annual US stop in Las Vegas on February 12th and 13th. American Flag Rugby will again be an exhibitor in the "fan zone" outside Sam Boyd Stadium. This is the 2nd year Vegas will host USA 7's and NBC will be broadcasting the action live for the first time as they get the country excited about rugby returning to The Olympics in 2016! The 2011 College 7's Championships migrate east from Ohio to Philadelphia this summer. 16 teams from around the country will compete over two days in 38 matches on June 4th and 5th. AFR is working with officials at USA Sevens to provide blocks of discounted tickets so that players and parents from The Morris, Union and other NY, CT and PA AFR teams can attend. We hope to get some players out on the pitch for an AFR flag rugby demo!
If things work out a former AFR player may be in the championships that weekend. See article below.

| Original 1999 player from AFR's Denville Dawgs playing for Penn State now. The Feurys are the 1st family of AFR | |
|

The American Flag Rugby format got its start in Denville NJ in 1999
KJ and Tom Feury started The Morris Youth Rugby program and his son Blaze was an original participant. (see photo on left)
After Denville then came Montville and Long Valley and Parsippany and the Morris program became the template for AFR. Today there are 11 towns under The Morris Youth umbrella. AFR needed a logo it and it was The Feurys to the rescue as they had a great action shot young Blaze Feury. If this logo becomes as famous as say the NBA's, Blaze could be know as the Jerry West of AFR.
After his flag days were over Blaze went on to play for The Morris Lions high school side and when Delbarton High School broke off and started their own rugby team he took the pitch with them ( he can be seen diving for a try against Darien CT on left ). He also played on several Met Union select side with team mate Cap Huizenga (see other article about Cap).
Blaze is a freshman at Penn State and has already played matches for the 1st side ( Cambridge England below ) and has been selected for the 7's pool so we may be seeing our former AFR rugger in The Collegiate Championships in Philadelphia in June. Watch out too as Blaze's younger brother Jake is playing scrumhalf at Delbarton and little sister Tess has one more year of flag eligibility!
