Thank you to the Fox 45 Morning Show for highlighting my House Bill 847 which will establish a state coordinator for Autism strategy. In case you missed it, you can watch the segment here: Morning Show This important legislation will ensure that Maryland is prepared to respond to the needs of this ever growing population that we are currently unprepared to handle.
Students from Towson University came to visit on Tiger Pride Day in Annapolis!
We had four bill hearings and a press conference last week. Oscar made a timely visit to my office and provided some stress relief before I had to go on camera.
On Tuesday, HB986 which will provide information to improve the educational outcomes for youth in foster care, was presented in front of the Appropriations Committee. If you would like to watch the testimony, you can view it here: HB986 HB266, which will ensure that the Maryland State Fair receives fair and proportional funding from the Racetrack Facility Renewal Account, was heard on the same day in front of the Ways & Means Committee. Video of the hearing can be found here: HB266
Wednesday was a busy day with 20 items on my calendar including multiple meetings with advocacy groups, two bill hearings and a press conference. You can watch the press conference here: press conference

Following the press conference, two of my bills were scheduled for hearings in two different committees. HB1292 ended up being heard first in front of the Ways & Means Committee. We listened to extremely emotional testimony from parents who had children injured in school with no answers as to what happened. This bill will allow for cameras in self-contained special education classrooms, where most of the students are non-verbal. To listen to the testimony, click here: HB1292

The hearing for HB847, which will establish a state autism coordinator (the bill highlighted on the Morning Show above), was heard in front of the Health and Government Operations Committee immediately following. To view the hearing click here: HB847
I am rarely in my office these days as I have been in marathon long meetings discussing taxes and education. To get the most recent information on what I am working on, please attend my Town Hall Meeting this Sunday, March 8th at the Cockeysville Library.
