While some would say these are the "lazy days of summer," it might be very different for you with planning music for the upcoming year. There are many exciting events around the area that can help you with your planning and skills development.

Coming up October 23-25 this year is a new event for Coppers ringers - Coppers' Classic. It will be in Vancouver, WA. Check out the articles below and information on our website.

There are some Read and Rings and workshops on the calendar to help you see as well as hear some of the great music available. Handbell conferences are being held in various parts of our area with wonderful clinicians. Be sure to check out one close to you (close = within a few hours!).

The International Handbell Symposium is in Vancouver, BC in July 2016. Area 10 is forming an ad hoc choir to attend. Check out "Around the Area and Beyond" For additional information and a link to the application.

Please forward this newsletter to your choir members and to anyone else who would be interested in all the concerts and events. Encourage them to subscribe to the newsletter. Click "Join our mailing list" at the bottom of the left column or click the newsletter link on our website, area10.handbellmusicians.org. With permission, I can also add names and addresses.

Coppers' Classic

What:  A ringing event designed for the individual ringer. Area 10 is sponsoring this fabulous ringing event which will allow you, the average Church Handbell Musician, to stretch your skills and develop your musicianship.

When: October 23-25, 2015

The weekend will begin on a Friday morning-with full choir rehearsals of the repertoire followed by sectionals, where the treble and bass sections will work separately on their "tricky trouble" spots. Because one is rehearsing the repertoire in a compressed time frame, repetition of the works in a matter of hours not weeks, mastery and success seems to come more quickly, easily and with great satisfaction. Rehearsals continue on Friday with the full choir. Saturday will again include sectionals along with full choir rehearsals and Sunday closes with a concert, open to the public, after a morning and early afternoon of full rehearsals.

Where: Red Lion on the Quay, Vancouver, WA (free PDX airport shuttle). The hotel will host the event providing rehearsal/concert space and housing for the participants.

Who: Ellie Hodder is the clinician; she is a talented and skilled conductor, clinician and teacher dedicated to the advancement of the art of handbell ringing and to the elevation of handbell musicians who really want to be the best musicians possible. Questions for the director? Email [email protected].

Why: The Repertoire is something the average Church Handbell Choir would not have the opportunity to ring and is great fun. It ranges from Bach to Katy Perry with one of the pieces, Singing in the Rain, arranged by Area 10's own Brian Tervo.

Also Personal Musical Growth: By ringing in events like this, my ringing skills have developed, my musicality expanded, and I learn new music with greater ease - all skills that help me as a director and ringer. By participating in this event you will return to your home handbell choirs a changed ringer with skills to share with your fellow ringers.

Act: I urge you to check out the Coppers' Classic webpage by clicking here. Register for the event by August 15th for early bird pricing and feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
