Happy New Year! January begins and with it new beginnings.

A new beginning for Area 10 is that our bi-annual conference has moved to the ODD numbered years.  Our next Area Conference will be June 2017.  By moving to the ODD years this allows you to attend a neighboring Area 11 or 12 conference; Area 12's is June 16-19  in Modesto, California and Area 11's is June 9-12, in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

A new beginning for you might be TO ASK: What can I do for my Area?
Area 10 will be electing a new Secretary and a Chair Elect in 2016.  Seriously consider serving; as an area board member you give back to the area and Handbell Musicians by helping others grow in the love of handbells and as a handbell musician.

Area 10 comprises about 400,000 sq miles (without Alaska).  We already offer 7 regional education/ringing events BUT small (1-4 choirs), local events can bring learning opportunities to those who won't or can't travel greater distances to a regional or area event.  Think about organizing one in you home town and bring the latest techniques and ideas about the Art of Handbell Ringing home. Your area board can help make it happen.

Diane Barnes
Around the Area and Beyond...

2016 is full of ringing/learning events: beginning in February, Area 10 is offering 7 events dotted around the Area throughout the winter/spring and fall. Five are the usual ringing/workshop events, one is ONLY for the youth, and one is the intense ringing weekend Coppers' Classic.  And it is not too late to participate in the 17th International Handbell Symposium in Vancouver BC, Canada this July.  Check them out at the Area 10 website at www.area10.handbellmusicians.org

Handbells join University of Idaho's Holiday Concert

Handbells played during the University of Idaho's Jazz Choirs Holiday Concert on December 11. The ringers are members of Alpine Carillons of the Moscow, Idaho United Methodist Church, directed and founded by Tom Crossler. This year's solo piece was Valerie Stephenson's "Fum, Fum, Fum." The handbell choir accompanied the combined Choirs on two original pieces composed by the University of Idaho's Dan Bukvich. Included in the program were presentations by the University's Vocal Jazz Choirs & instrumentalists. The evening was brought to a close with a rousing presentation by the University's marching band!

Notice the high mallet clicks on "Fum, Fum, Fum"
