The Northwest Campanologist
I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas filled with lots of ringing and are looking forward to sharing handbells with our churches and communities in 2017. There are many events planned this year; please try to attend at least one. It is always fun and a learning experience to ring with many others under different directors. What tidbits can you gather at each event?
If your choir gives a spring concert, please let me know the information so I can add it to our list of events. This is a great source for getting the word out about concerts.
Please forward this newsletter to your choir members and to anyone else who would be interested in all the concerts and events. Encourage them to subscribe to the newsletter. Click "Join our mailing list" at the bottom of the left column or click the newsletter link on our website, area10.handbellmusicians.org. With permission, I can also add names and addresses.

Notes from the Chair ...
I've never been much for New Year's resolutions. I guess I know myself too well and know that I probably won't keep them. I also figure if it's something I need to be doing, I should just do it.
However, I saw something on Facebook this morning that I just might do. On the Handbell Musicians of America page they asked what ringing resolutions we might have. Caleb Onstead from Area 2 commented with his "Handbell Bucket List". Wow, this guy is ambitious - and organized. He has his festival attendance plans listed out for the next four years. Then he has his general, composing, and other goals listed in detail. I loved it! Everything from what level or specific event he wants to attend, to what he wants to conduct or arrange, to what people he wants to meet or ring under. He has a lot of things on his list that I would put on mine!
So what's on your ringing bucket list for 2017? Maybe it's something as simple as making every rehearsal. (Your director will love that!) Maybe you want to make sure your membership to HMA is current - great idea!
Maybe you want to attend that nearby festival, or branch out and attend the Area 10 festival. Or maybe even the national seminar. So many great things happen for your ringing when you broaden your horizons. Maybe you want to learn a new technique. Or, heaven forbid, ring in a different position! Maybe you want to fill in for your director once or twice to get your feet wet in front of the tables. Or how about trying your hand at arranging?
Directors, we have things on our list too. How about improving our repertoire selection? Or improving our beat pattern so our ringers can actually follow us? Maybe we should be getting to those festivals so we have new ideas to bring home. I know I would love to be able to ring more - I am so energized after a stint with bells in my hands again.
So think a little bit about a ringing bucket list for 2017. The more we push ourselves the better. Email me your list - I'd love to hear what's on it. Thanks to Caleb for the inspiration!
