Bells of the Cascades, an auditioned community

 handbell choir in the Portland, Oregon metro area, is seeking an experienced music director. This is a paid, contract position. Music directing experience required.

 

 Weekly rehearsals(Tuesday evenings) and two to four concert weekends or other activities per year.

    There's still time to register! We still have space for more ringers so check out the information in the article below. The cost is just $200 for the opportunity to work with great clinicians, attend interesting and helpful classes, and hear Vivace, the amazing choir from Puerto Rico. All information can also be found on our web site, area10.handbellmusicians.org. Under the batons of William Payn and Shirley Lindberg, you will take the music to new heights of musicality.  

     Please remember the pre-conference Directors' Seminar with William Payn on Friday, June 22, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to sharpen your skills. It is $75. 

     If you are unable to open any of the forms, please email me and I will gladly send them to you as attachments or, if you prefer, snail mail them to you.

Handchime Loan Program
handchimes
     Area 10 wishes to strongly encourage schools to develop music programs using handchimes or handbells. To support the development of such programs, the area has established a grant program for schools that includes the loan of a 3 octave set of handchimes plus curriculum and music for a school year. There are seven sets available. The application deadline is June 1.

     Nancy
Hascall will lead a workshop on Musicality for the Handbell Choir, focusing on what musicality is and how you achieve it for your choir. It will also include how weaving, four-in-hand, and other techniques can help you in your choir ringing. Husband Glen will teach bass bell ringing. Time will also be given for your choir, ensemble or soloist to have a private coaching session with Nancy. Homestays with ringers are available on a first-come basis.  Bells of the Sound Concerts

     With its cool sounds and hot rhythms, the musical genre of jazz has a little something for everyone. Join Bells of the Sound for a journey through the history of this American art form as they perform jazz standards such as In the Mood, St. Louis Blues and Take Five along with several original compositions arranged especially for this program. You'll be tapping your toes and snapping your fingers like the coolest hepcat before you know it!

Sunday, May 13 - 3:00 pm, Berries & Bells handbell and harp concert at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor. Harpists from Pacific Lutheran University will join the Chapel Ringers on four pieces written for bells and harp. Following the concert strawberry shortcake will be served. Free will offering.

 

Tuesday, May 22- 7:00 pm.  Forest Ridge School's three high school handbell choirs present "The Spirit of Childhood," featuring music from Disney movies as well as several original handbell works written by students. In Forest Ridge's Lee Theater (4800 139th Ave. SE, Bellevue). $5 admission, which goes to support their upcoming southern California tour. Sunday, June 3 - 7:00 pm, Rainier Ringers  (rainierringers.org), a Tacoma area community handbell choir, will be presenting their spring concert titled "At the Movies - Rated B for Bells" at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 101 East 38th St., Tacoma. This exciting movie themed concert will include music from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of the Caribbean, and many more. Also performing will be Bells of Bethlehem and Prairie Bells. Admission is free although a free-will collection will be taken.

 

Sunday, June 3 - 4:00 pm. Concert by the Chancel Bells of Calvin Presbyterian Church under the direction of Danny Reding.
