     This is a special edition of the Campanologist to notify everyone that the Greater Puget Sound Handbell Conference needed to be cancelled. We are very sorry if you were making plans to attend. There will not be an All Area event this year; it will be in 2017. However, there are other events coming up in April and it's not too late to register:

  • April 8 & 9 - Inland Northwest Handbell Workshop in Pullman, Washington, with Phyllis Tincher, clinician. Late registration fee waived so it would still be $50.
  • April 29 & 30 - Siskiyou Summit Handbell Conference in Ashland, Oregon, with Cathy Moklebust, clinician. Late registration fee waived so it would still be $65.

     Come and join many others ringing five great pieces under the direction of Phyllis Tincher. The weekend begins with set-up Friday, April 8 in the late afternoon with the opening rehearsal at 7:00 pm. It continues Saturday beginning at 9:00 am and concludes with a concert for the community at 7:00pm.
 
      Cost is $50.00 per person. This includes all workshop activities plus lunch on Saturday.

Some fresh faces join the "teaching staff" at Siskiyou Summit
 
     This year Mary Balkow, Kim Braswell, Brian Tervo share their wealth of knowledge with you. Mary Balkow has been directing handbell choirs for over 30 years, in both church and community settings. She brings her ringing experiences and music education training together to share with you: Handchimes...they are more than an oversized tuning fork and Rhythms-Soup to Nuts. Kim Braswell She has spent her life living by the words "Do what you love and you'll love what you do" pursuing a degree in Music Education and Handbells at University of Southern Mississippi ringing in and touring the world in Carillon Handbell Choir under the direction of Dr. Larry Smith. Kim shares her knowledge and love of handbells in a classes on: Articulations: everything you need to know and Bell Tree Ensembles "All Strung Up". Brian Tervo, the Area 10 past chair, has been ringing since 1989, founded and directs Emerald City Ringers and both church youth and adult choirs. He is a published composer/arranger and shares his great store of knowledge through: Basic Music Theory and Rehearsal Planning.

FREE Handbell Tables!

     FREE!! 3 used Peery handbell tables, trapezoidal 60" x 70" x 30", with adjustable legs, and plastic music racks with aluminum brackets which slide into sockets in the table. The tables are padded, with the padding wrapped in muslin. Royal blue covers and skirting are included, as well as heavy black canvas zippered carry cases for each table. Canvas sleeves for the plastic racks are also included. The aluminum brackets have a 6" offset which places the music rack closer to the ringer, as if it were a 24" deep table.
 
     These are the heavy duty tables with welded support bracing for the legs. Each table has a large carry handle mounted underneath for easy carry even when inside the canvas carry case. The tables can be stored in the carry cases, folded, fully dressed and skirted.
 
    These tables will be donated to any tax-exempt organization who can arrange for their pickup in Billings, MT. Please contact C. Pierson, [email protected].

Sunday, March 20 - 3:00 - 5:00 pm, "Handbells Plus." First Congregational Church, Anchorage. Led by Ella Saltonstall, Artistic Director of Isle Bells and Alaska State Chair for Handbell Musicians of America, this session will include ringing music approachable for all levels in a relaxed environment. Focus will be on dynamics, technique, and refining three Level 2 songs during the session. At 5:00 pm the "plus" will be pizza and salad for those that would like to finish with dinner.
