OUR NEW JUTE BAGS

Environmentally Healthy is UltraHealthy

Achieving UltraHealth consist of what you put in your body and on you body, as well as your relationship with yourself, others and the environment.  Similarly to making a change in your diet, something as simple as recycling can have a profound effect.

I have been passionate about recycling and waste reduction since my senior year in college when I started a recycling program while working in the university President's office.  My initiatives quickly lead to a campus wide recycling program serving more than 25,000 students.

At Austin UltraHealth we have recently implement several changes in an effort to do our part to reduce our paper waste.

  * On September 1st we implemented the use of Electronic Medical Records.

 * We turned our New Patient Adult Intake Form (Child's Intake Form coming soon) into an interactive PDF; which means that you can fill it out online and then email it to us.  We can download it straight into your Electronic Medical Record and no paper will ever printed.

* We are asking all new patients to limit their medical records requests from other doctors to those that are absolutely necessary for Dr. Myers and Mel to review.  Each night we receive hundreds of pages of faxed medical records and of those pages only a few are actually relevant.

* Our office uses 100% recycled copy paper including toilet paper, paper towels and tissues.  (We also use glasses for serving water.)

* We are excited to have replaced our vinyl New Patient Binders with 100% recycled cardboard binders.

* Have you seen our new Jute (a plant fiber) shopping bags displaying the Austin UltraHealth logo?   Each new patient receives a bag at their initial visit.  Existing patients may purchase a bag for $10.  These bags are great for grocery shopping, errands and weekend getaways.  Each time you use this bag (or any bag you bring) for supplement purchases we will give you a $.10 discount on your purchase.

* And we continue to recycle all paper, cardboard boxes and glass in the office.

I was surprised to learn from The National Recycling Coalition (http://nrcrecycles.org/)  that the average American uses seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products made from trees. This amounts to about 2,000,000,000 trees per year!  We also throw away approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper away every year.

One 15-year-old tree can be made into 700 paper grocery bags. A busy supermarket like Whole Foods, Central Market or HEB could use all 700 of them in less than an hour! This means in one year, just one supermarket can go through over 6 million paper bags.

Americans use and throw away about 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour!

And each year, 1 million sea birds, 100,000 marine mammals, and 50,000 fur seals are killed as the result of eating or being strangled in plastic.

Please join us at Austin UltraHealth in supporting our environmental and recycling efforts and email us your New Patient Intake Forms, buy a jute bag or bring your own for supplement purchases and use a reusable stainless steel water bottle rather than buying it in plastic bottles.r wait until you have boarded the plane and ask the flight attendant to fill your bottle with water.  By doing this you not only save money by not purchasing bottled water, you also avoids toxins from plastics and you help our environment.

ULTRAHEALTHY LUNCH BOX TIPS

Now that school has started, packing lunches for a child with food sensitivities may seem like a daunting task.  I have created a few LUNCH tips and suggestions to help!

Let your child pick out their own lunch box.

For some safe options: http://www.lunchbots.coml or http://www.to-goware.com

Use fun napkins and utensils!

http://www.pristineplanet.com

Neatly pack food in individual compartments.

For some safe options: http://www.snacktaxi.com

and http://www.lunchskins.com

Choose a variety of colors.

Remember to eat the rainbow!

Handle food safely.

Make sure hot food is hot and cold food is cold. Bacteria love temperatures between 41F-135F. Food should not be kept in this zone for more than 2 hours.

Tip:  Freeze smoothies and use them to keep food cold: By lunch time, the smoothie should be defrosted and ready for sipping!

A sample 5-day menu cycle with some creative ideas for elimination diet friendly kid's lunches.

Monday

Friday

Turkey Roll-ups Roll organic, nitrate free turkey slices around peeled+ seeded cucumber spears.  Serve with hummus for dipping, and a tropical fruit salad made with pineapple and mangoes sprinkled with toasted coconut flakes.

*Recipe:

Crunchy Oven Roasted Chickpeas

1 15-ounce can organic chickpeas

1 tablespoon of olive oil

1 tablespoon chunky sea salt

(optional: spices of choice)

Preheat oven to 400F.  Rinse, drain, and dry chickpeas. Toss with oil and spread out on large baking sheet. Roast for 30 -40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to make sure they don't burn! Remove from oven and toss with salt and favorite seasonings!

Enjoy,

CREATING CLEAR AGREEMENTS

One of simplest ways to add ease and flow into your life is creating clear agreements. Doing so removes any future possible confusion or misunderstanding.  The net result is more space to create positives that enrich your life.

When practicing creating clear agreements, it doesn't matter if they are big or small.  In fact, noticing the tiny ones might be the most powerful.  Your commitment to do so will open up so many opportunities to you.

Most people are unconsciously committed to settling for ambiguity and drama in their life as a result of messy agreements. Here are some examples what might occur: Confusion (I thought you said ____ ), Blame (You are always ____), Defensiveness (I did not say I was going to ____!).  All that ambiguity and drama zaps your energy and creates a multitude of secondary problems. (Have you ever had argument with your significant other about the argument itself while never solving the original issue at hand?)

Here's an example recently one of my clients experienced how he was willing to have a messy agreement while traveling.  While unpacking at the hotel, his girlfriend noticed she had forgotten her iPhone charger and asked if she could borrow his.  He easily said yes and handed it over to her.  His initial thought was to make an agreement how it would be returned.  Instead he ignored this impulse.  Several hours after they had checked out the next day and were on back on the road, he asked if she had packed the iPhone charger.  She had not.

At this point, the conversation could have escalated into the blame game, heated argument, or worse.  Although my client had all kinds of things to say, he realized he did not establish a clear agreement. Since he is committed to taking 100% responsibility in his life; that trumped everything. Messy agreements lead to messy results. He was grateful for the learning experience.

Flash forward several months later.  While on another trip, his girlfriend again asked to borrow his iPhone charger.  Remembering to establish clear agreement, this time he neutrally stated his needs.  "I would be happy to. I request you give it back to me directly when you are finished. If not, then you are responsible for making sure to pack it before we leave the hotel."

Only make agreements, big or small, that you can keep.  When someone makes an agreement with you there is always an option to add your requests.  What is it that would best support your needs?

Surprisingly, one of the clearest ways to make an agreement is to say No.  So much is associated with doing so as we think we'll disappoint the other person or they may not like you as much.  Instead you might say a hesitant Yes even though inside you've already made up your mind you'll be late or not follow through completely.  Consider how much energy it takes to manage all of that!  Instead re-frame your No into an Enlightened No.  When you say No, you are really saying Yes! to yourself.  Yes! I am clear.  Yes! I am choosing to do what suits my need in the given moment.  Yes! I am choosing to decline your request.

Agreements are one of the foundations for building trust. Your friends, family, coworkers, and partner learn to count on you.  Of course, this all starts with you.  Learn to trust your needs and what you are wanting and what you are capable of doing.  By doing so, you will infuse new energy that will add a burst of flow to your life.

Give clear agreements a try and see if you agree.
