"Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters"

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation launched Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters in 2017 to commemorate the Foundation’s 25th anniversary. Held annually during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, this tribute has grown to include fire departments, families, and communities across the country lighting their homes and buildings in red to honor fallen firefighters.

Our Bowling Green Fire Division will be joining the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in honoring America’s fallen fire heroes by lighting up red from April 26 – May 3, 2026. We invite landmarks, fire departments, community organizations, businesses, and families across the country to take part in this powerful tribute leading up to National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Help us shine red in all 50 states to show we remember.

2026 Proposed Electric Rate Adjustment

The City of Bowling Green operates a public power utility, which means our electric system is locally owned, not-for-profit, and focused on serving the community. Unlike private, investor-owned utilities, Bowling Green’s electric utility does not generate profits for shareholders. Revenue from electric rates stays within the utility and is used to operate, maintain, and improve the system that serves our customers.

Electric rates are reviewed periodically to make sure they continue to reflect the actual cost of providing reliable service.

To develop multiyear utility rates, the City utilizes an independent consultant to perform a Cost of Service and Rate Study, with the most recent rate adjustment implemented in 2021.

Over the past several years, however, the cost of providing electric service has increased significantly due to factors largely outside the City’s control, including higher power supply costs, rising transmission and capacity charges, inflation in materials and equipment, and ongoing infrastructure needs.

To ensure the long-term reliability and financial stability of the electric system, staff has been working with Sawvel & Associates to complete a new Cost of Service Study and develop a proposed multi-year rate plan...Read More on Electric Rate Update

Bowling Green Part of Wood County’s New Emergency Alert System

Those who live, work or regularly visit the City of Bowling Green can receive emergency notifications with the new Wood County Alert system, powered by Everbridge. Similar to CodeRED, the City and County will use this system to communicate with the public during critical events, including severe weather, fires, electrical outages and other safety alerts, to more routine announcements. Users can choose how they prefer to be contacted, including by text message, phone call, email or a mobile app.

The new system replaces the previous emergency notification platform, CodeRED. It is important to note that prior registrations for CodeRed will not transfer, and all users will need to create a new account to receive alerts.
