Community Center Annual Maintenance Closure

The Bowling Green Community Center will be closed to all facility users from Monday, Aug. 10 through Sunday, Aug. 16, 2025, for its annual maintenance shutdown. The facility will reopen Monday, Aug. 17. 

The Parks & Recreation Department will continue to serve the community during this time. The Simpson Building Administrative Offices, located at 1291 Conneaut Avenue, will be open on a limited basis from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Services available during these hours include processing program registrations, rental reservations, payments, and other related services.

As part of the City’s reciprocal use agreement, Community Center passholders will have access to the BGSU Student Recreation Center during the closure. Additional details regarding this temporary access will be shared with current passholders via email as the maintenance dates approach. 

The Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Department thanks all Community Center users for their understanding and cooperation during this essential maintenance period. 

Monday Morning Meditation and Movement

Bowling Green Parks and Recreation is excited to continue Monday Morning Meditation and Movement. Join certified yoga and meditation teacher, Maria Signorino, the Natural Resource Specialist at Simpson Garden Park in the Healing Garden for meditation and light movement.

Join on Monday mornings 8:30 a.m.- 9:15 a.m. August 3 through October 5. There will be no session held Monday, September 7, in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

EcoSmart Choice Green Pricing Program

EcoSmart Choice is a voluntary Green Pricing program offered through American Municipal Power (AMP) and Bowling Green Municipal Utilities which allows customers to support renewable energy development. The program is available to all Bowling Green customers.

The program will purchase and retire Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) from renewable energy resources, such as hydro, wind, or landfill gas. One REC is equal to one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generated from a renewable energy resource. For each REC that is purchased, one MWh of non-renewable electric generation is offset.

RECs used in the program are certifiable under the rules of Green-e Energy program operated by the Center for Resource Solutions.

Customers can enroll at any time by submitting the EcoSmart Choice Online Form or by contacting the Utility Business Office at 419-354-6252. Customers can cancel their participation in the program at any time with no cancellation fee by contacting the Utility Business Office at 419-354-6252

Bowling Green Part of Wood County’s New Emergency Alert System 

Those who live, work or regularly visit the City of Bowling Green can receive emergency notifications with the new Wood County Alert system, powered by Everbridge. Similar to CodeRED, the City and County will use this system to communicate with the public during critical events, including severe weather, fires, electrical outages and other safety alerts, to more routine announcements. Users can choose how they prefer to be contacted, including by text message, phone call, email or a mobile app. 

The new system replaces the previous emergency notification platform, CodeRED. It is important to note that prior registrations for CodeRed will not transfer, and all users will need to create a new account to receive alerts.
