Arbor Day Foundation Names Bowling Green
Tree City USA for 46th Year

The City of Bowling Green was recently recognized as a Tree City USA during the Northwest Ohio awards ceremony. This year marks the 46th occasion Bowling Green has been honored with this nationally recognized award. Additionally, the City received the prestigious Tree City USA Growth Award for the 32nd time, acknowledging its continuous efforts in fostering higher standards of tree care and environmental improvement.
The City, along with the Bowling Green Tree Commission, was honored to attend this year's Tree City Awards Ceremony in Maumee, Ohio.

Put a Lid on It! Free Youth Bike Helmets Available
To help prevent injuries and save lives, the Bicycle Safety Commission is partnering with the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in a statewide effort to remind children to “Put a Lid on It!” during the month of May – Ohio Bike Helmet Safety Awareness Month.
Bowling Green was one of several local communities to receive youth bike helmets for distribution through support from the Ohio AAP Foundation, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Honda USA Foundation. 100 helmets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
Those in need of a youth helmet may pick one up at the Bowling Green Community Center during the following hours:
- Tuesday, June 2nd: 2:00 – 4:00PM
- Thursday, June 4th: 5:30 – 7:30PM
- Saturday, June 6th: 10:00AM – Noon

Pedal Through History Slow Roll Bike Ride
The Bicycle Safety Commission will host its second slow roll bike ride of the season as part of the community’s celebration of America 250. The Pedal Through History ride will take place on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, 2026, beginning at 2:00 PM. Riders should meet at the Veterans Building parking lot in City Park for a leisurely, family-friendly ride featuring stops at historical locations throughout Bowling Green. The ride will be led by members of the Bicycle Safety Commission.
Rides are free, family-friendly, and open to everyone. Each rider is required to wear a properly-fitted helmet and ride a correctly-sized bicycle in safe, working mechanical order. It is highly recommended that young riders, not able to travel on their own, participate via a tow behind trailer or child bike seat. Lunch in the Park
The Parks & Recreation Department announces the return of Lunch in the Park, bringing great food, live music and a vibrant community atmosphere. Events take place at 11:30 a.m. on Fridays in June and July at the Martin and Kiwanis Shelters in City Park, weather permitting. Lunch is available for purchase from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with live musical entertainment until 1 p.m.
Attendees can look forward to an expanded recreational area featuring activities for all ages. Guests will enjoy games such as cornhole, box hockey, giant Jenga and more, offering the perfect outing for families, coworkers and friends to kick off the weekend early and enjoy a fun, refreshing lunch outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, activities will move indoors to the Veterans Building atrium.

Concerts in the Park
The Parks & Recreation Department announces the return of its beloved summer tradition, Concerts in the Park, now with an enhanced atmosphere for all ages!
The series takes place on select Sunday evenings in June and July, with performances beginning at 7 p.m. In addition to the live music that has made the series a local favorite, attendees will enjoy an expanded recreational area featuring interactive activities. Guests are invited to take part in games such as cornhole, box hockey, giant Jenga and more.
To further enhance the experience, a variety of food trucks will be on-site, offering a selection of delicious summer snacks and desserts. Concerts will be held at the Needle Hall Stage in City Park, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, performances and activities will move indoors to the Veterans Building atrium.

City Pool 2026 Season
The Parks & Recreation Department opened the City Pool & Waterpark over this past Memorial Day weekend.
Please note the Pool will be closed on Tuesday (5/26), Wednesday (5/27), Thursday (5/28), and Friday (5/29), reopening on Saturday, May 30th.
The City Pool will be open daily from Noon - 8:45 PM.
Season Passes are available for purchase at the Bowling Green Community Center.

| | 2026 Parks & Recreation Summer Guide is Live | | |
The 2026 Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Summer Youth Program Guide is available online. Each year, the Parks & Recreation Department releases the guide as a resource for parents to browse options for camps, sports, Safety Town, swim lessons and theatre programs.
How to register for a program online:
1. Visit the Rec Trac website
2. Create an account
3. Select the summer programs you would like to register for.
Register in-person at the Bowling Green Community Center (1245 W. Newton Road) Monday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., or Saturday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

| | Bowling Green Part of Wood County’s New Emergency Alert System | | |
Those who live, work or regularly visit the City of Bowling Green can receive emergency notifications with the new Wood County Alert system, powered by Everbridge. Similar to CodeRED, the City and County will use this system to communicate with the public during critical events, including severe weather, fires, electrical outages and other safety alerts, to more routine announcements. Users can choose how they prefer to be contacted, including by text message, phone call, email or a mobile app.
The new system replaces the previous emergency notification platform, CodeRED. It is important to note that prior registrations for CodeRed will not transfer, and all users will need to create a new account to receive alerts.

National Historic Preservation Month!
Celebrate National Historic Preservation Month this May with a variety of local events and activities hosted by the City of Bowling Green Historic Preservation Commission, Wood County District Public Library and Wood County Museum. Highlights include the 4th Annual “History Lives Here” self-guided walking tour, a downtown scavenger hunt, local history bike tours and numerous educational programs, exhibits and family-friendly events throughout the month.
